Mimi Imfurst and XELLE at Therapy March 3rd

Blending the Spice Girls
with a hint of Ke$ha and a little RuPaul, the
ground-breaking new girl group XELLE is poised to take the pop anddance music charts by storm with the debut of the video for their first single “PARTY GIRL”.

After a chance meeting at a karoke party, powerhouse female vocalists JC Cassis and Rony Goffer teamed with drag sensation Mimi Imfurst to create XELLE, a unique girl group for the newish millennium.

featured on MTV’s The Seven. It is currently available for sale on iTunes. The video will be available on YouTube beginning March 4.

The video, directed by Hilarion Banks and choreographed by Ryan McNally with costumes by Geoffrey Mac was filmed in a single take, without permit (gasp!) on a moving New York City subway train (the N/Q line
in, appropriately, Queens, to be exact).

With 40 extras, strobe lights, confetti cannons, glowsticks, follow spots, dancers and anyone  else who happened to be riding the, XELLE turned the subway train into a moving dance party. In the spirit of NYC’s infamous outlaw parties of the 1990s, the music video is a love letter to NYC nightlife and to party girls everywhere.

New York Desserts….with Booze

Can I have some
dessert with my booze??

We’ll let the Europeans bicker over who first doused their dessert with booze. Was it the Irish, soaking fruitcake in whiskey? The Italians with their mocha “pick-me-up”, Tiramisù? Or the French, lighting cherries on fire in honour of Queen Victoria’s Jubilee? All we know is that they had the right idea.

People love eating dessert and drinking alcohol. For this reason, many of the city’s top restaurants are making decadent, sweet treats that also have a serious, boozy kick. Here’s a map of 10 liquored-up desserts — some use fine spirits as a flavoring more than anything else, others might actually get you totally  tanked!

Gay Atlantic City Adds Gay Bingo at Trumps Taj Mahal July 9th

New gay bingo nights at
Trump Taj Mahal
signal expanding LGBT market in Atlantic City.

Atlantic City’s transformation to an adults-only casino city that’s “Always Turned On”  started appealing to the LGBT community last fall.

Following a gay-themed “Out in Atlantic City ” weekend of partying at the Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. casinos last September, Trump Entertainment Resorts  Inc. has begun courting gay and lesbian customers earlier this year with its own events advertised as Fun and “Gay”mes.

Trump spokeswoman Mary Moyer said 300 to 500 customers are expected this Friday night at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort for gay bingo, followed by dancing in a ballroom-turned-nightclub suggestively named “Club O 69.”

More gay bingo nights are tentatively scheduled in July and August as the Taj Mahal continues to appeal to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender customer base.

“We recognized a need to provide entertainment experiences to the GLBT community,” said Paula Mauk, vice president of marketing for Trump Entertainment. “We have amenities at the Trump Atlantic City properties that can attract and grow that demographic.”

Harrah’s Entertainment, owner of the Bally’s, Caesars, Harrah’s Resort and Showboat casinos, threw the doors wide open to gay customers with its “Out in Atlantic City” weekend last year. The event featured appearances by gay and lesbian entertainers, parties and gay bingo. The event will be staged again this September, although Harrah’s has not yet announced details.

Jennifer Weissman, regional vice president of marketing for Harrah’s Entertainment, said the Harrah’s properties appeal to gay customers year-round through a series of special events and entertainment. She believes gay events at Trump Taj Mahal, normally Harrah’s rival, will only enhance the city’s tourism business.

“I think it’s a great thing,” Weissman said. “The more all the casinos do to attract more customers to the market, the better.”

If you go:

Event: Gay bingo at Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort

When: 8 to 10 p.m. Friday July 9th, Tiara Ballroom

Cost: $10 donation. Proceeds benefit the South Jersey AIDS Alliance

Prizes for best dressed individual, best decorated table and best dressed table.

Style Maker Carson Kressley Shares His Best Of Gay New York City

Gay List Daily , is a swank e-publication dedicated to making the trendy, gay individual even more trendy and gay. I have been a subscriber for a few months now. “Our diligent staff searches far and wide the worlds of culture and couture, of food and festivities, and anything else that you just absolutely have to know about.”

This week they are launching a recurring feature to explore the favorite spots in the city frequented by gaydored LGBT (or friendly) celebrities, in various categories that make New York the greatest, gayest city in the world. Carson Kressley ,  style-maker, icon, TV personality and down-to-Earth fairy godfather (from his work on How To Look Good Naked to his upcoming judging role on True Beauty), is the first in the series of  Q & A.

So what are Carson’s top picks for New York?

Food
Carson’s choice brunch spot: BG Restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman. I love the old fashioned glamour of eating IN an actual department store. The view of Central Park is a bonus!

Favorite pizza: Two Boots in the West Village.
Favorite restaurant worthy of dressing up for: Monkey Bar – dress to impress (and to get a decent table!).
Favorite dessert: Milkshake from the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park.

Fashion
Favorite vintage shopping: The Garage Flea market in Chelsea. Full of cute design oriented gays and tchotchkes they love: vintage clothes, paintings, and silver.
Favorite off-the-radar menswear boutique: I’m not sure it’s off the radar anymore, but Ina Men in Nolita is the stylist’s secret for both buying and selling top notch gently worn menswear.

Fun
Favorite dance floor: Sigh…there will never be another dance floor like the Roxy but Hiro on a Sunday night is the next best thing!
Favorite dive bar: Barracuda.
Favorite people watching spot: Bryant Park, especially during Fashion Week.
Favorite spot to get away from it all: My roof deck!
Favorite spot to be yourself: At home with friends.

We  don’t  usually  run too many  bar  photos –

Some  tasty  photos from the new
Carnival party on Wednesdays at  Bowlmar .
110 University Place (Btw. 12th & 13th) • (212) 255-8188

Black Book Mags  take on last night , “It is a triumph of glitz, glam and, more importantly, fun. All the usual and unusual gathered for this 3-ring purpose. We often judge these “fashion fag” events by the familiar faces, the cast of tried and true characters who have shaped this scene for decades. Their presence laid credence and their attendance was often the barometer of success. What I saw yesterday was much better….”

Super Gay Super Heroes on Parade at Skin Tight USA Party at Stonewall Inn

Do we really want the “straight media” poking around into all of our parties and fetishes, explaining them to the world? I don’t know. I think sometimes it makes us look bad….

Take for instance last weekends  New York Times.  It’s a big gay bird! It’s a big gay plane! It’s… the front page of the Sunday Style Section in the Paper of Record!  I was on the subway and heard some straight people snickering and making fun of the expose on Skin Tight U.S.A., the costume-fetish party at the West Village’s Stonewall Inn.

The Village  Voice  said, “let’s explain this zany subculture to stodgy old people” treatment, while the good-humored subjects doubtlessly laugh it up at the thought of being anthropologically considered by the New York Times. But then it turns into a captivating cultural critique of comic book culture. Let’s observe the geeky homosexuals in their natural habitat, shall we?”

Q TALK – The Gay View?

Move over Whoopi and Joy, there are some new gab queens in town!

Q-Talk is a gay live talk/variety show with four hosts (each of which is a theater veteran), held monthly at the Metropolitan Room (@ 34  W. 22nd St., between 5th and 6th Ave.) in NYC on the third Saturday of every month at 9:45pm.

Just like the “View”, there are four hosts (except this time there are three gay guys and a lesbian), a topic, and several guest performers.

Qtalk, often described as “the Gay View” is much more fun, sassy and over-the-top. At the same time, Qtalk deals with very real issues, but manages to be entertaining and engaging. Qtalk’s live talk/variety show format is led by four hosts, Broadway veterans Joseph John, Frantz Hall, Stacey Todd Holt, and Angie McKnight.

The hosts tackle current events, fitness and lifestyle, punctuated by guest performances from Broadway, Cabaret, and the Pop world.

During the show, the hosts invite the audience to ask questions or offer their opinions on specific topics on the table, often leading to some lively discussions and perhaps opening some minds.

This month’s topic is “Gay Siblings.”
The three  gay Gamblin Brothers will be there chatting –  Is it Hereditary or Just Fabulous?

The date for this month’s show      is Sat. Feb. 20 at 9:45pm.

It’s a lot of fun and worth checking out!

Time

9:45pm. You need to arrive by 9:15pm to guarantee your seat.

Cost

$5 per person admission, plus two drink minimum.

Reservations are required. Please call 212-206-0440 or go to Metropolitan Room.com for a reservation.

Win a Trip To Amsterdam and Watch for the S Subway Train Car and FREE Holland Giveaways

Anyone who has been to Holland knows it is the perfect place to just be amazed, just be relaxed and just be yourself! That’s why the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions (NBTC) is launching its newest marketing campaign on February 4th in North America, “Just be. In Holland.” to appeal to every type of traveler. Whether your style is classic or contemporary, Holland has something for everyone, from iconic Dutch canals and windmills to innovative design shops and cutting-edge fashion.

To mark the launch of this new year-long campaign, NBTC will test potential travelers’ knowledge of Holland through a series of contests on Holland.com.  A new contest will be posted every Thursday in February.  Each correct online entry will be entered into a weekly drawing for a chance to win an incredible prize that highlights a different aspect of Holland’s unique style.

Prizes include –
·         A monthly delivery of fresh tulips for a year
·         An exclusive Gassan 121 diamond made in Amsterdam
·         A quintessentially BATAVUS Dutch bicycle
·         An iconic $1000 Carbon chair designed by Marcel Wanders and Bertjan Pot

In addition to the weekly prizes, one grand prize winner will be awarded the ultimate experience: a chance to just be in Holland! In order to qualify for the grand prize—two round-trip, business class tickets on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to Amsterdam and a four-night stay at the Sofitel Amsterdam The Grand—potential travelers simply need to upload a photo showing how they would “Just be. In Holland.” between February 4 and March 4, 2010. The most creative entry will be selected.

In addition to the weekly contests running on Holland.com throughout February, those who live in New York City will have a chance to be transported to Holland via themed subway cars on the S subway shuttle line, which runs between Grand Central and Times Square. Each car—wrapped inside and out—will represent Holland’s cultural, classic and contemporary aspects and include translations of fun Dutch phrases and words.  In addition, street teams will be deployed at the Grand Central and Times Square stations each week to distribute Holland-themed giveaways

Conrad van Tiggelen, Director, NBTC North America, looks forward to engaging with potential travelers for the launch of the new campaign. “The new ‘Just be. In Holland.’ campaign epitomizes what repeat visitors to Holland already know—that Holland is a place where you can truly be yourself and discover a world of authentic and modern experiences, whether you are interested in art, culture, design, fashion or architecture.”
