#We Are All Clean HIV Challenge

THIS IS BRILLIANT!

Could this be the HIV equivalent to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge? We think so. The concept is the brainchild of well-known HIV activist, Jack Mackenroth who has partnered with Moovz, the leading global gay social app, to launch the project. It’s genius in its simplicity. We are now a selfie-obsessed culture and Mackenroth urges everyone to take a special selfie for an important cause.

“I was inspired by the use of the word ‘clean’, especially common in gay culture, to describe oneself as STI/STD free. Indirectly this implies that HIV-positive people are somehow ‘dirty'”, says Mackenroth. “I thought a PG or PG-13 shower selfie or Vine video would be a fun way that everyone could easily show their support on social media for finding a cure by using the hashtag #weareALLclean when they post their photo with the link. They then nominate 3 other people to participate and hopefully donate to the project as well.”

The goal of the campaign is to raise 1 million dollars to stop the epidemic and help find a cure and the campaign will be ongoing indefinitely. Donate here. All donations received will be donated to Housing Works, a New York-based nonprofit organization fighting on the front lines to end AIDS and homelessness, not just in New York but globally by 2030. The CDC estimates that there are currently 1.2 million people in the US living with HIV and over 35 million people around the world.

“As someone who has been living with HIV for 25 years this is very personal to me.” Mackenroth adds, “There is current urgency for funding as we have new treatments that maintain viral suppression and render HIV-positive individuals virtually non-transmissible. Those same treatments can be given to HIV-negative individuals and protect them from infection. Essentially we already have the tools to stop the epidemic from spreading. Exciting new research is bringing us closer to a real cure for AIDS every day. ”

The campaign will launch within Moovz because of the app’s high user engagement rates and it’s history of successful international LGBT social media campaigns. Mackenroth is known as a social media powerhouse in his own right but he is also enlisting many of his “social media superstar” friends to get the campaign off the ground.

Actor, model, singer and social media stud, Chris Salvatore is igniting the campaign from Los Angeles after joining forces with Moovz as well. “It’s time to erase the stigma and unite as a global community. Regardless of your gender or sexual identity—no matter what age, color, size or shape you are, you should be part of this project! Let’s all be one loud, united voice in support of awareness, education, treatment and research for a cure.” says Salvatore. “And have fun with it. Be funny, sexy or silly. Who doesn’t want to see people in the shower soaping up for a good cause?”

“I truly hope this campaign goes viral—no pun intended.” Mackenroth quips.

The campaign launches between now and World AIDS Day, December 1st and is ongoing until the goal is reached. The hope is that there will be traction in the following weeks so that people know about the campaign on World AIDS Day and change their profile photos to show support.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Take a selfie or Vine video of yourself in the shower.** NO EXPLICIT NUDITY**

2) Post your photo now on Moovz and all social media platforms with the caption “Take HIV Shower Selfie Challenge raise $$ for AIDS cure bit.ly/CUREAIDS #weareALLclean”

3) Nominate 3 or more other people to participate!

4) (Optional) DONATE!! Please consider a small donation if you are able. Every penny counts! bit.ly/CUREAIDS

5) On World AIDS Day (or before) : Monday, December 1st, please change all your social media profile pix to your shower selfie photo and spread the word!!

New York Gay Singer Nick Deutsch

SEXY New York based singer/songwriter Nick Deutsch  releases  the music video for “Run,” the lead single off his EP Crazy Ride. In it, Deutsch chronicles the heartbreak he felt in the lead-up to and aftermath of a relationship breakup with another man.

Deutsch  said in  a blog post on his website about why he felt it was important to come out as member of the LGBTQ community with the video’s release:

I believe that regardless of career, being open is still very much a big deal, although I do appreciate and empathize with the over-arching view that “it’s no longer a big deal to be gay.” Even with Sam Smith sitting tall at the billboard top ten, we are sorely in need of supportive voices to counter the awful statistics and narratives that have historically plagued the LGBTQ community. It feels ridiculous to consider portraying myself as anything but confident with who I am as a gay man, especially within the wider context of the enormous social changes that have occurred.

Because I’m blessed to be in a position to have a voice, I consider it an honor to be different. The deeply understood reality of this quick, short life has resolved me to live it on my terms and not be ignorant to the reality that most of human suffering is tied to flexible beliefs. I’m not pushing my sexuality in anyone’s face as much as I’m being who I am. I’m not a gay songwriter as much as I’m a songwriter who happens to be gay. In regards to “Run,” I put a male actor in my video because the song was written about one. I fell in love with a boy and got my heart broken, so that’s what you’ll see.

Eternity – The Movie October 17

EXPERIENCE THE 80’S WITH
MUSICAL COMEDY
ETERNITY: THE MOVIE

“Note perfect…Strikes just the right chord.” – Fanboy Planet

“Seriously hard-core tongue in cheek love card to the 1980s.” – Frontiers LA

Get ready to laugh to the max for all of eternity.” – Content Magazine

With a cast of hot newcomers and veteran character actors, VFRPR and Sidecar Productions are bringing Eternity: The Movie to theater screens in all of its 80’s glory beginning October 17th in New York at the AMC Empire 25, October 24th in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Music Hall 3, with additional markets across North America to follow.

Regrettable fashion, synthesized riffs, and power ballads dominate the 1985 music scene. That’s when Todd Lucas, a young and talented musician, moves to Los Angeles in hopes of making it big. Searching for someone to share his passion for smooth R&B music, Todd meets up with BJ Fairchild, a cocky loner who is convinced his life is more glamorous than it is.

The two musicians have big dreams but little future until their best friend, Gina Marie, gets them the break of a lifetime. Fate brings them together, love tears them apart, and their songs of heartbreak and loss redefine their genre. Todd and BJ epitomize the awkwardness of an era while becoming R&B’s most mediocre duo… Eternity.

The film features performances from a mix of rising stars such singer/actor Barrett Crake (Bruno and Earline Go To Vegas), Myko Olivier (TV’s “Castle”), acclaimed vocalist Nikki Leonti (Nikki & Rich, TV’s “Glee”) and cult favorites John Gries (Napoleon Dynamite, Real Genius, The Monster Squad), Martin Kove (The Karate Kid, TV’s “Cagney and Lacey”) and Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts (Runaway Train, Star 80, The Dark Knight), whose role as the duo’s fey store manager Frontiers LA called “worth the price of admission alone”.

Jake and Marty LaSalle – Once Jugglers… CIRCUS No More

Who didn’t fall in the lust
with Jake and Marty LaSalle
this month as  PBS aired  CIRCUS ?!

Over the course of six dramatic hours, the documentary follows the legendary Big Apple Circus  on an unforgettable journey from the big top to the “back lot,” where nail-biting drama unfolds both high in the air and down on the ground and the real heart of the circus beats.

The delicious gay twins (how hot is that?!)  Jake and Marty have left juggling now however. In the show we get a glimpse of their tension building –  but it’s never really revealed, what is driving them apart. Is it Jake’s decision to leave the circus? or something else?

They had the same genes but different dreams, and that spelled the untimely end of one of the most celebrated young circus acts in recent memory. Two years ago, the brothers said, they were each earning $67,000   a year — from the circus, and double that from regular side gigs.

Now, Marty makes about half as much as he used to. He still lives in a trailer at Damrosch Park, working for the circus in guest relations and business development — he exercises infrequently and has not juggled publicly in 16 months.

Brother Jake is in his second year of medical school at the University of California — he chose the institution because a top training ground, the San Francisco Circus Center, is also nearby.

The New York Times  did a big piece on the brothers last week.

Jake says, “I definitely have no regrets about joining the circus. I think that if I ever do, it will be that I didn’t stay in the circus long enough. There were, of course, times when it was difficult. We sacrificed a great deal when we were developing our act as teenagers, and we had conflicts with each other, our parents and our coach.

I also have no regrets about leaving the circus to become a surgeon, though it was not an easy decision to go to medical school. I imagine I would have found happiness in either path, but I’m very satisfied with the new challenge that the practice of medicine has presented to me.
