Folsom Street East presents: A Fetish for Fashion February 12
For those of us who prefer our roses thorny and our candy hard,
Folsom Street East proudly presents
A Fetish for Fashion,
our first annual runway show and charity auction to benefit the LGBT Community Center. We invite you to join us on the 3rd floor of 208 West 13th Street on Saturday, February 12th for an evening of polymorphously provocative fetishwear from The NY Eagle Shop, The Leather Man, Wonderwear, and ManSkins NYC.
The night’s festivities will also include a special appearance by #1 Billboard charting artist Sylvia Tosun , who will be performing her new single, “World Keeps Turning.”
We can’t think of a better way to kick off Fashion Week in NYC — and support a worthy cause — than with a runway presentation showcasing some of the city’s fiercest leather/fetish/kink-wear designs.
In addition to the runway presentation, this year’s event will also include a cocktail reception and silent auction of luxury adult items to benefit The Center – including our own “Million-Dollar Jock,” which would make even the bravest Victoria’s Secret model blush and turn in her wings.
Doors open at 7pm on Saturday night, with the show kicking off around 8pm.
Admission for the cocktail reception, auction, and fashion show is $10 for standing room and $15 for seats (while they last) and includes one drink ticket.
The after-party will be held at the NY Eagle on 28th Street, with drink specials throughout the evening for fashion show attendees presenting their FSE wristband.

Rem Koolhaas disciple Bjarke Ingels unveils Wild Pyramid in Hells Kitchen
The talented 36-year-old Rem Koolhaas disciple is ready to introduce his magical mystery mountain to the people who might one day live inside it.
The full reveal is on the Bjarke Ingels Group site , and Ingels is profiled by Justin Davidson in this week’s New York magazine, which both grows the myth surrounding the hipstertect and reveals many of the details behind the high-rise set to go up next to the West Side Highway.
When asked about his mountain-type building he said, “They’re buildings that look different because they perform differently. They harvest resources — daylight, views — in different ways. What we try to do is maximize possibilities.
Before, you could choose a life in the city, and that would give you certain advantages, but it would be at the expense of parks and green spaces, fresh air and bicycle rides, or a private garden. And I think now in New York, and with projects like the Mountain and 8 House we did in Copenhagen, we’re trying to offer some of the suburban advantages, like a house with a garden where your kids can go outside and hang around, and combine that with the services of a dense urban space.”

My Big Gay Italian Wedding Approaches 1 Year Anniversary
“so friggin’ excited to make his
Off-Broadway debut in
My Big Gay Italian Wedding!”
MBGIW is a hit! Adam has been in the show since its opening last May, and this May, the show will celebrate it’s one year anniversary!
Previously, you may have caught him in the national tours of Legally Blonde: The Musical! (Nikos/US Warner), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Jimmy Smith); We first spotted this hottie in Chicago in Altar Boyz at the Drury Lane Water Tower (Juan/US Matthew).
Michael Cavnaugh from GayLifeNYC.org caught up with Adam and crowned him Broadway Hero of the Month. Adam Zelasko chats with HIVHERO.org and founder Michael Cavnaugh about his role in My Big Gay Italian Wedding, being from Buffalo- his qurks and what makes him one of the hottest new stars in New York City. Check out this super hot, and sweet guy.
He is smart, gorgeous and has the best hair in show business! – You can also catch him at the Chelsea David Barton gym, where he just started working as a personal trainer.
MY BIG GAY ITALIAN WEDDING
will soon celebrate its one year anniversary!
Co-Presented by DINA MANZO from THE REAL HOUSEWIVES of NJ, she and some of the other housewives stop by often and will make appearances in the show! (Everyone except Danielle Staub!)
So what’s it all about? Planning a wedding can be hell, but planning to ruin a wedding can be a hell of a lot of fun! Andrew and Anthony are getting married and everyone wants to “help”! MBGIW spins into hysterical fiasco as everyone tries to have their way. From a saboteur ex-boyfriend to a loud, opinionated, outspoken Italian mother, personalities and culture collide in a music and dance-filled extravaganza.
The show has gotten rave reviews! And currently has tickets on sale thru late May.
Since the beginning, the show has attracted many stars making guest appearances! Originally it launched with Amazing Race star and hottie/model/author Reichen Lehmkuhl and also with David Moretti from The Lair.
Besides the Real Housewives making an appearance now and then, there have been appearances by Lance Bass, Austin Peck, and out-and-proud Salon Takeover Diva Tabatha Coffey ! – Tabatha will be coming back to the show, later this month!
“You can’t have a big gay Italian wedding without big and beautifully teased hair,” says Coffey, “so I knew that this was the show for me. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the holiday season in New York than with these big, buffed boys and beautifully buffed broads at My Big Gay Italian Wedding.”
Mid-March the show will host a special “Soap Week” with guest appearances from various soap opera stars.
ILENE KRISTEN is currently in the role of Aunt ToniAnn. Perhaps best known for her portrayal of Delia Ryan on Ryan’s Hope, she is currently the gambling, beer-guzzling and always inappropriate hairdresser Roxy Balsom on One Life to Live.
She originated the role of Patty Simcox in Grease and portrayed the infamous Leona Helmsley in Mayor.
Back to Dina Manzo. She commented in an interview last year, about her involvement with the show. “I’m very dear friends with the writer, who’s also one of the stars, Anthony Wilkinson. And I went to see the play. He had a preview of it in Staten Island, and I just loved it. I fell in love with what it stands for, obviously. I told him, “Now is the time to bring this a little further with gay marriage being in the spotlight. We can have people who were a little hesitant to approach the topic come and see it and laugh and see how heartfelt and funny it is, and approach it in a different way — open some other minds to the possibility of equality.”
Anthony Wilkinsons first production of My Big Gay Italian Wedding was In 2003, beginning with a six week run at The Actors Playhouse in New York City, eventually moving to Theatre Four and extending for almost a year. Three years later, Anthony wrote and starred in another gay musical, Boys Just Wanna Have Fun, which also ran at The Actors Playhouse.
A supporter of gay rights and Marriage Equality, Anthony realized it was time for the return of My Big Gay Italian Wedding, and returned to the original script, transforming it and creating a show that was bigger, better and more explosive than before.
The re-creation premiered in September of 2009 at the historic St. George Theatre in Staten Island, as a one night only benefit for Pancreatic Cancer Research. The reception it received proved that the time was right for the show’s return to the off-Broadway stage, where Anthony is once again reprising his original role. Spring of 2010 the show opened at St. Lukes Theatre, 308 West 46th Street, and is going strong!

New York’s dynamic cultural shifts

JANUARY 27 – FEBRUARY 13, 2011
THE LABA THEATRE AT THE 14TH STREET Y
In GENTRIFUSION, playwrights Carla Ching, Joshua Conkel , Michael John Garcés, Jon Kern, Janine Nabers and Crystal Skillman, explore the different truths surrounding the gentrification of New York’s neighborhoods. The playwrights were charged with breaking down the cliched idea of “gentrification”.
Their pieces dig deeper to address the ways that change both improves and diminishes a community. All residents are given voice in this series, ultimately discovering that both long time residents and the new crop of gentrifiers benefit and suffer in different measures and different ways.
Joshua Conkel’s short play is ,
Robert Mapplethorpe
Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
Is the “gay ghetto” dead? Some queens just can’t agree on anything.
According to Josh, “My piece is about a war of words between a trans street person and a well-to-do gay man whose just adopted a baby. It’s about assimilation vs identity within the gay community and the death of “gay ghettos” due to gentrification.”

Gay Pop Singer Adam Shenk at Bitter End Jan. 18th
And you can hear it in his music- in the synth and groove of the song Taste off of his 2010 release Suitcases but you can also hear traces of neo-soul, and jazz. But don’t be fooled- though his hair is a throwback he wears a modern fitted suit and has trained with top New York choreographers to bring the best of the 90’s and tangle it with the current, creating a cutting edge contemporary image and sound.
Gay pop artist Adam Shenk is breaking the barriers of the traditional singer songwriter prototype- he steps out from behind his keyboard and engages the crowd with his dancing and indelible hooks. And the verdict on the new 90’s boy singer-songwriter hybrid toy? Sugary and sticky hooks, sexy and evocative vocals, and a deliciousness that makes you feel like you are 13 again dancing in front of the mirror.
With an extensive history of studying at renowned music academies, Adam packed his ‘suitcases’ and ventured to New York to express his unique blend of music. Soon thereafter he began gaining notoriety, landing a spot as a semi-finalist on MTV’s Making The Band, performing for Puff Daddy, and working with top choreographer Laurieann Gibson and New Edition/Bell Biv DeVoe member and manager/producer Michael Bivins. Along the way he has been playing shows at top New York clubs including Rockwood Music Hall, Bowery Poetry Club, Bitter End, and he has held a residency at LES hotspot Pianos.
With a new video in tow for the title track to his 2010 release ‘Suitcases ’, Shenk is continuing to play in New York and the surrounding areas!

Mayor Bloomberg SLASHES Support for Homeless Youth…Then Says “It Gets Better” to the Youths!
Bloomberg recorded an “It Gets Better” video yesterday, in which he urged bullied gay youth to come to New York City where they would be accepted. Ok, so you are cutting support – yet encouraging youths to come to New York City….WTF?!
Bloomberg says in the video: “Right now there may be some of you out there who feel that there’s no hope, or that you’re not wanted. Well I have a message for you. New York City wants you. New York has always been the place where anyone can go, and be who they’re supposed to be, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual identity. We need you.”
This whole It Gets Better movement is becoming kind of silly. Even President Obama has said “It Gets Better”. Really Barack?
Carl Siciliano, Executive Director of the Ali Forney Center, which provides shelter and services for homeless LGBT youth, said “Mayor Bloomberg, your cruel and reckless cuts to the meager support system for homeless LGBT youth in New York City just made things for them much worse! On January 1st, Bloomberg cut support for outreach to homeless youth in half, cut most drop-in centers for homeless youth by a third, and cut support for the two LGBT homeless youth drop-in programs in half. In New York City there are over 1,000 LGBT youth suffering on the streets every night without access to safe shelter. The drop-in centers and outreach are their only support. Homeless LGBT youth are at incredible risk of suicide with 62% reporting that they have considered or attempted suicide.
The LGBT community needs to recognize these cuts as an attack against our most vulnerable youth, and against us as a whole. We pay just as much taxes as anyone, and there are far too few City-funded programs that support our most vulnerable youth. If we can be treated like this in a city with as strong an community as NYC, how will our youth ever get their fair share of the resources they need and deserve? I cannot speak strongly enough about what a horror it is to have LGBT youth who have been discarded by homophobic parents flock to us for help, and to have to counsel them to sleep in the subways because there are not nearly enough beds for them.”

FCKH8 Male Model Calendar and Shirts
40,000 T-shirts
over $250,000 for queer youth suicide prevention and the fight for marriage equality!
WOW!
This is even bigger than NOH8 !
The latest F-word-filled viral video from FCKH8.com
features a cross section of people, including a 5-year old child, drag queens and an old woman, Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta and YouTube sensation “Kelly” (known for her over 40-million-viewed video “Shoes”) using the forbidden four-letter word to take “Homo H8ers” to task.
The no-holds-barred clip shows people wearing purple and white T-shirts that read “FCKH8”, “Don’t B H8N on the Homos” and “STR8 AGAINST H8.” The T-shirts are sold on the video’s website starting at $13 each, with $5 going directly to organizations offering vital counseling & suicide prevention programs. The website also sells bumper stickers, hoodies, wristbands and buttons to help spread its message. Which are all selling like crazy!
The website’s message and fundraising T-shirts have found support from some of Hollywoods biggest gay names with Ellen Degeneres and wife Portia deRossi snagging pins and stickers reading “Some Chicks Marry Chicks. Get Over It” and Glee’s Jane Lynch posing for photos to promote the fundraising T-shirt with the same slogan. Glam rocker Adam Lambert tweeted the video’s link to almost a million fans saying, “It’s for a good cause. Sometimes fire w/ fire is a great way to illustrate a point.”
The controversial but humorous video rails against anti-gay bigots at home, church and school with lines like, “You bully your kids, you bury your kids“, “Preaching FCKed up hate has a lot to do with the suicide rate”, and a little 4 year-old girl exclaiming, “If I grow up lesbo, do you want me to FCKing get gay bashed?”

The hot and humorous “making of” video features athletic, good-looking half-nude straight models in compromising positions and pushes the line with straight men’s “junk” needing to be blurred out.
“These guys are more than just good-looking, they are helping out a good cause,” says director Luke Montgomery. “Who hasn’t wanted to get their hands on some hot straight boys walking around in just their underwear and jockstraps? BURLESQUE! Cher and Christina Deliver
likes something different. 10 people can watch the same movie and give it 10 different reviews.
I had heard rumours Christina Aguilera’s part was lack luster. I had heard that the story had some holes in it. Whatever. I just ask myself, “Was it entertaining?” – and the answer is yes! BURLESQUE
is very entertaining!
And all I can say is if Cher doesn’t make you wet, Eric Dane and Cam Gigandet WILL!
I found the story entertaining, I want to run out and get the Soundtrack, Christina’s voice is amazing, and I want to see Eric Dane or Cam Gigandet do gay porn! Which probably isn’t going to happen!
In case you don’t know the story yet…Fresh off the bus from Iowa to L.A., Ali (Christina Aguilera) boasts a great body and an even better voice, so it’s only a matter of time until the owner of the Burlesque Lounge (Cher) gives her a chance. She starts out a cocktail waitress, then becomes the lead showgirl and singer. Meanwhile, a real estate mogul (Eric Dane) tries to buy the club from Cher because she is falling in debt. Ali beocmes “roomies” with one of the club’s hot delicious bartenders (Cam Gigandet), whose fiance is 3,000 miles away and not coming back soon. I won’t spoil the ending but there are tensions and drama but it’s a happy ending for all in the end.
CHER looks great! But ahem, I suspect a little vaseline on the lens or a soft filter perhaps. But she looks great, nonetheless at 64! The sets are eye catching and Christina’s voice, well, what can you say?! Flawless.
“Ally is short for Alice.”, says Ali/Christina
“Welcome to wonderland”, says Stanley Tucci/Shaun.
Sure it is a bit corny at times, if you want to split hairs.Aguilera shows off that big voice as she transforms the Burlesque club from lip-sync lounge to a suddenly hot home to a blues shouting torch singer (her) dancing and singing with scantily clad women – ala PussyCat Dolls.
Alan Cumming also does a little variation of his Broadway Emcee from “Cabaret” and has the most overtly sexual number in this surprisingly chaste riff on the old bump and grind.
(those MEN! Cam Gigandet top – Eric Dane bottom)
Tea with Mussolini (1999) was Cher’s last film. When asked about her emotions after all these years finding herself on a sound stage again, She said, ” I was terrified. That’s the way I roll. I roll terrified in the beginning. You go scene by scene. Whatever is in front of you is the thing you do. If there had been more great movies along the way, I would have done those.”
and she revelaed, “There’s an opportunity to go on a tour and yet I’m not so sure that that’s something I want to do immediately because I’ve been working for a long time. I did like working on this film so much that I really would like to do another film. We’ll see.”

SAGE Cuts Ribbon on New Space – Expanding Vital Services Citywide for LGBT Older Adults
Yesterday,SAGE welcomed
friends and supporters,
including New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Calamus Foundation Board Chair Louis Bradbury, to celebrate the unveiling of its new office. This space will be dedicated primarily to expanding SAGE’s services and programs to the thousands of LGBT older adults who live in New York City.
SAGE was able to acquire the space due to a generous award of capital funds from the New York City Council, the Manhattan Borough President and the Calamus Foundation, reflecting a growing faith among government and philanthropic leaders about the importance of improving the lives of LGBT older adults around the city, and the country.
“This seed money from our city and the Calamus Foundation is an important vote of confidence in SAGE’s mission and in our ability to successfully manage our resources and to build an effective, sustainable organization,” said Michael Adams, executive director of SAGE. “Now, for the first time in our 32-year history, SAGE owns a permanent home that LGBT older adults can rely on now and in the future.”
The new space will be built out over the coming months and will be designed to ensure optimal program delivery to meet LGBT elders’ most critical needs. SAGE is currently seeking additional funding to complete the project.
