Shirtless Men are Trending on the Streets of New York

FINALLY!  A fashion trend I like. Shirtless men.

From the New York Times – historically, inhabitants even of laid-back 10013 have not been in the habit of walking around semi-naked.

There, on Bastille Day, was a shirtless guy checking out the windows at
Bergdorf Goodman; there, on Lafayette Street one Tuesday morning, ambled
a shirtless shopper hauling Urban Outfitter bags; there, on the R
train, was a rider wearing nothing but jeans and sandals; there, on
Astor Place, a cluster of topless men flaunting their abs and pecs.

“I was on my way to the bank and I saw not one, not two, but three guys”
walking shirtless across Eighth Street, said Rob Morea, a personal
trainer and an owner of Great Jones Fitness in NoHo.

Broadway Bares SOLO STRIPS May 5th at XL Nightclub

Sunday, May 5,2013…….9 pm

XL Nightclub
512 West 42nd Street, NYC

As the weather warms up, the clothes will come off 12 of the hottest
men from Broadway Bares when they strip down to raise money for Broadway
Cares/Equity Fights AIDS at Broadway Bares: Solo Strips.

Tickets for Solo Strips, a special, one-night-only evening of choreographed stripteases, are on sale now.
A limited number of reserved table seats are available for $40. General
admission standing tickets also are available for a $15 donation. Get tickets now.

This year’s Broadway Bares: Solo Strips dancers include Matt Anctil (La Cage Aux Folles, Broadway Bares 18-21), Patrick Boyd (Grease, Broadway Bares 17-19), James Brown III (Wicked, Broadway Bares 16, 18-20), Timothy Hughes (Chaplin, Broadway Bares 21), John Paul LaPorte (Broadway Bares 15-22) Patrick McCollum (Broadway Bares 16, 18-19), Peter Nelson (Cinderella, Broadway Bares 21-22), Daniel Robinson (Hairspray, Broadway Bares 17-19), Matthew Rossoff (Jesus Christ Superstar, Broadway Bares 18, 21) Billy Steeves (Broadway Bares 22), Dennis Stowe (Annie, Broadway Bares 9, 13-14, 16- 17, 19- 20) and Sheldon Tucker (Bring It On: The Musical, Broadway Bares 21-22).

Broadway Bares: Solo Strips will again be directed by Tony
Spinosa. Doors open one hour prior to the show. Reserved table seats
require an additional two-drink minimum.

Solo Strips is a return to the roots of Broadway Bares. In 1992, Jerry Mitchell, then a performer in The Will Rogers Follies,
organized a benefit burlesque show featuring himself and six friends
performing original strips at a bar for a $10 donation plus whatever
tips the audience gave the dancers. Mitchell, now a Tony Award-winning
director and choreographer, is executive producer of Broadway Bares,
which is produced by and benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Broadway Bares: Solo Strips is a sexy tease for Broadway Bares, one of BC/EFA’s annual signature events. This year’s racy, road trip-themed edition, Broadway Bares 23: United Strips of America,
will feature 200 of New York’s most desirable dancers discovering – and
uncovering – amber waves and mountain majesties that only Broadway Bares
could find. This trip across the fruited plains of America will most
certainly be the stuff patriot dreams are made of. Special celebrity
guests will be announced at a later date.

Broadway Bares 23: United Strips of America will be held Sunday, June 23 with two performances only at 9:30 pm & midnight at Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Get tickets for Broadway Bares now.

The 2013 Bares season started in January with Broadway Bares: Winter Burlesque, which raised $35,428. The season continues with Solo Strips, then Broadway Bares: Fire Island on June 1 before concluding with Broadway Bares 23.

Meet this year’s Broadway Bares: Solo Strips dancers…..

Meningitis outbreak among Gay Men in New York City

A deadly meningitis outbreak among gay men in New York
City has led the city to recommend that every gay man who is basically
sexually active, and not in an exclusive relationship, to get a
meningitis vaccination.

The  CDC is saying,
“Meningitis is a disease caused by the inflammation of the protective
membranes covering the brain and spinal cord known as the meninges.”

The alert was issued two weeks ago – I didn’t hear a word about it until yesterday when the Huffington Post wrote about it.

The New York City Health Department’s recommendation for who should get vaccinated…..The Health Department issued new recommendations today for vaccinating
against invasive meningococcal disease – commonly known as meningitis –
after an increase in cases. Vaccinations are now advised for men,
regardless of HIV status, who regularly have intimate contact with other
men met through a website, digital application (“App”), or at a bar or
party.

New York Teacher Matthew Maleski was Fired for Using School Email for Potential Hook Ups

New York Post said last week, A former male model-turned-elementary school teacher sent out
sexually-explicit emails to potential hookups on Craigslist — but   used a school email account to do so, investigators found.

Upper
East Side special education teacher Matthew Maleski attached pictures
of himself clad only in boxers (scandalous?) to his email responses to Craigslist’s
notorious personal ads, according to officials. Why on earth would you use the school’s  email???

The fit
32-year-old teacher, who was terminated from PS 183 on Tuesday, had
formerly posed half-nude in ads for a gay social networking App called
“Hornet.”

Maleski, who started working for the Education Department in 2011, made
$56,048 a year. According to the investigation, he said he did not
intend to send the emails from the school account.

Rawhide: Iconic Gay Bar in New York will Close

The rent goes up…

and we lose an iconic gay bar in New York.

New York gay bar Rawhide is expected to close its doors by the end of the month.

Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York
blog reports that the leather bar’s landlord will raise the rent from
$15,000 to $27,000, effectively pricing the establishment out of its
Chelsea location at Eighth Avenue and 21st Street. The last day of
operation will  be March 31.

As Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York and Towleroad both
point out, New York City mayoral hopeful Christine Quinn spoke fondly
of the establishment, which opened in 1978, as part of a recent New York magazine profile

Matt Anctil Broadway Bares Stripper of the Month

BROADWAY BARES  has named hottie
MATT ANCTIL their stripper of the month!

The  adorable Matt Anctil made his big Broadway debut in La Cage on Broadway  and now is traveling around the country with George Hamilton and the   La Cage National Tour.

Over the years he  has donated his time to various charities including Broadway Bares.

Matt says, “Aside from tradition, it is so important to me to be a part of Broadway
Bares because it is a wonderful example of how the entire Broadway
community comes together year after year to help our fellow human beings
with the gifts we have been given.

This is more than a show…it’s art,
it’s family, it’s celebration….a celebration of life! Honoring those
who we have lost and looking forward to each and every day we have to
live as Jerry (Mitchell) always says….FULL OUT!!!

Last year Matt was named Broadway Hero of the Month by Gay Life NYC.org. and he  had  much to say about bullying, his time in high school, the broadway
beauty pageant and all the great things he does for charity.

It’s so refreshing to see someone so young (he is 25) doing so much for charity. And he has actually been donating his time and talents for several years now! How incredible is that?!   Congratualtions Matt – from Best Gay New York.com
