New York City Producer John Ed Celebrates 20 Years in the Industry with Extravagant Party

Legendary producer and promoter John Ed will be celebrating 20 years
in the industry with a larger-than-life party at Marquee Nightclub on
August 15th for Catwalk Thursdays hosted by the famous Susanne Bartsch
and Brandon Voss.

As a graduate from the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Berklee
College of Music, John Ed’s passion for entertaining is an essential
piece of his creative fabric.  He was first enamored by the nightlife
scene when he made a trip to New York City from Boston to visit the
original Sound Factory Nightclub in the early 90’s.  “The energy was
over the top,” he recalled. “I remember one weekend I saw Madonna there,
sitting on top of one of the speakers and braiding her pigtail,
watching everyone and enjoying herself. She said to me, ‘I’m casting
dancers for my tour, let me see you dance.’ Honey, I carried on like
nobody’s business. I didn’t get the job, but I did end up being the
Creative Director for the new Sound Factory many years later with owner
Richard Grant, promoters Alex and Leo, and their new DJ Jonathan Peters.
It was a life-changing opportunity to create unforgettable memories for
others, much like I experienced years before.”

Before permanently moving to New York City in 1993, John Ed was
hired by legendary club promoters David Leigh and Lee Chappell to work
at their lavish themed parties.  “I now call Lee Chappell my Fairy
Godmother,” John Ed remembered fondly. “I learned so much from him. He
introduced me to so many people and taught me the ropes. He showed me
how to bring a party to life.”

Since then John Ed has been the Creative Director at some of New
York City’s hottest clubs, such as Sound Factory, Tunnel, Mirage,
Carbon, Exit, and Webster Hall. He has hosted events for big name
clients such as Beyonce, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Richard Branson,
Fendi, Donald Trump, Victoria Secret, and many other Fortune 500
companies.  While still the Creative Director at Exit Night Club, world
famous DJ Tiesto hired John Ed after his team attend a New Year’s Eve
event John Ed produced. “I wrote and created an entire show based upon
Tiesto’s vision and the songs he handpicked,” John Ed explained. “We
then executed this show at large arenas across the United States for
thousands of his fans.”

This year John Ed will be celebrating his 20th anniversary in the
industry with a larger-than-life party at Marquee Nightclub on August
15th for Catwalk Thursdays hosted by the famous Susanne Bartsch and
Brandon Voss.  Scheduled to perform is Florida’s legendary nightclub
Icon Kitty Meow and New York City’s talented Ebonee Excell, plus musical
entertainment from DJs Johnny Dynell and W. Jeremy. Transsexual Icon
Amanda LePore will also be hosting the lavish event, with special
appearances from some of the biggest nightlife personalities of NYC’s
past and present.  “I have met some amazing creative people in the
nightlife scene and I consider them to be family. It’s also so rewarding
to pass along my knowledge to others, much like how my fairy godmother
Lee Chappell helped me. I will never forget where I came from and I hope
everyone will come and celebrate life with me.  Here’s to another 20
years!”

John Ed is the owner and producer of famed entertainment company
Party Productions NYC. He is currently working on a big nightlife
project at a brand new venue from Ibiza coming this fall. His website
can be found at www.PartyProductionsNYC.com.

In addition to his busy calendar of special hosted events, John Ed
is also the producer and promoter for New York City’s #1 weekly
transsexual party, Tranny Strip. For more information, please visit  www.TrannyStrip.com.

John Ed’s 20th Anniversary Party will be held at Marquee Nightclub
is located at 289 10th Avenue in New York City from 11pm-4am. Admission
is $10 and attire is dress to impress.  Visit their website at www.MarqueeNY.com. For more information on Catwalk Thursdays by Susanne Bartsch and Brandon Voss, visit their official websites at www.SusanneBartsch.com and www.VossNYC.com.

New York Restaurants Dump Russian Vodka in the Streets

Gay rights activists in New York City dumped vodka onto the streets on Wednesday to protest new laws in Russia targeting homosexuals, as a growing number of gay bar owners across the United States vowed to stop pouring Russian vodka. “Boycotts are set for a reason. We’re trying to
influence change, and maybe change what’s happening in Russia,” said Chuck Hyde, general manager of Sidetrack, the largest gay bar in Chicago, which stopped carrying Stolichnaya vodka about a week ago.
TODAY A group of restaurant owners plan to dump Russian-made vodka into the
streets to protest new laws in Russia banning gay “propaganda.”

The protest is organized by the United Restaurant and Tavern Owners
Association, which represents 3,000 hotels, nightclubs, bars and
restaurants. more at NY Daily News

Shirtless Men are Trending on the Streets of New York

FINALLY!  A fashion trend I like. Shirtless men.

From the New York Times – historically, inhabitants even of laid-back 10013 have not been in the habit of walking around semi-naked.

There, on Bastille Day, was a shirtless guy checking out the windows at
Bergdorf Goodman; there, on Lafayette Street one Tuesday morning, ambled
a shirtless shopper hauling Urban Outfitter bags; there, on the R
train, was a rider wearing nothing but jeans and sandals; there, on
Astor Place, a cluster of topless men flaunting their abs and pecs.

“I was on my way to the bank and I saw not one, not two, but three guys”
walking shirtless across Eighth Street, said Rob Morea, a personal
trainer and an owner of Great Jones Fitness in NoHo.

Gay New York Online Dating

Are you tired of clubs and the bar scene? Online dating has exploded in
recent years and now 1 in ever 3 couples meet online. If you are looking
for someone in New York now there is a website strictly for gay men and
women in the Big Apple, GAYNY.net.  GayNY is not a typical website.

It doesn’t have members from California
and Florida. With some help from state of the art technology members
can only sign up if they live
within a 60 mile radius of New York City. Now you don’t have to look at
emails from people in Boston or Philadelphia. GayNY has several
thousand members and is always looking for more innovation to connect
gay men and women in New York City.

Best of all, it’s free to
sign up and browse the personals. You only have to pay if you want to
begin contacting other members. One month is only 19.95 and three months
is only 39.95. If you compare this to other dating sites such as  Match
and eHarmony you are saving just as much and have access to just as
many members.

What are you waiting for? Someone in New York is looking for someone just like you.

New York Photographer Launches GayFace 1st Class project

GayFace is a current collection of
fine photography works by New York City photographer/artist, Ashley
Kolodner.
Gay rights, as human rights, have long been thrown aside by
the American society.  Sexuality cannot be defined as black and white
for all. There are many members of the LGBTQ Community that do not
identify with just one label. Queer culture is most often portrayed as
radical, quirky, off-beat even unserious, or detrimental to social and
familiar norms.  The goal of this project is to break barriers that the
LGBTQ community has lived under. The purpose is to give this community
the voice it deserves and the power to speak their truth.
This collection of works is done to portray the innovative, personal,
and participatory face of the gay movement and American culture at
large and in the home.

Each
subject is photographed with their eyes closed, then eyes open.
The
images are meant to be seen side by side. Closing their eyes gives the
viewer a sense of the subjects’ vulnerability. The eyes open, allows the
subject to look the viewer directly in the eye.  Once the photographs
have been taken, each subject participates in a short interview stating
their name and their identifiable label of their choosing.

The work will then be projected onto different buildings and landmarks, to superimpose this true-to-life image of the gay community and further the aims of the movement in light of the

current ACLU and marriage court
cases.  She has and will continue to tour the United States to shoot
individuals who overtly, or covertly,

identify
themselves within the LGBTQ community.  Her work has already
contributed greatly to the self-identity and empowerment of these
individuals, producing a massive support system.  This work will also be
contributed to book projects, street art and gallery exhibitions.  She
is working to unify others in her movement in celebration of sex,
freedom of identity, freedom of association, and culture.

+ Pool Will Become a Reality in New York’s Hudson River

It’s going to happen!  A  pool in the Hudson River! It started with a vision – not it’s going to become a reality!

Like a giant strainer dropped into the river, + POOL makes it possible
for everybody to swim in clean river water right here in NYC.
+ POOL started with a simple goal: instead of trying to clean the entire
river, what if you started by just cleaning a small piece of it?
And
what if you could change how New Yorkers see their rivers, just by
giving them a chance to swim in it?

A  Kickstarter  fund drive was launched with goal of $250,000,  “we’ll be able to build the 35′ x
35′ Float Lab off the Brooklyn shore this August, giving everybody a
chance to see and learn about how + POOL will clean the rivers.” – As of July 20th, $273,000  has been raised!

+ POOL is driven by the supporters, backers and collaborators that want
to see the pool in the water as much as we do.  So we thought, what if
we broke the pool into bite-size chunks and gave everybody a way to
claim a piece of the pool for themselves?”

Find out how to own your own piece of the pool at Kickstarter!

New York Will Refund Estate Taxes Paid before DOMA Ruling

GOOD NEWS for surviving gay spouses that had to pay estate taxes in New York!

The woman who brought down the Defense of Marriage Act will soon get back thousands of dollars her same-sex marriage cost her.

Following Edie Windsor’s Supreme Court victory last month challenging
DOMA, which denied federal recognition to same-sex couples, Democratic
Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced New York would refund estate
taxes paid by surviving spouses of same-sex marriages.
The refunds will
be offered to those whose spouses died as recently as 2008, reports the Daily News,
three years before New York legalized same-sex marriage. As the
governor’s office points out, three years is the typical limit for a
taxpayer to file an estate tax claim, credit, or refund.

Cuomo called the compensation “one more step toward justice” in a press release.

Gay Pride and Health Fair in the Bronx with Hundreds of Entertainers

The new Bronx LGBTQ Center (the “Center”) is pleased to announce final details of its

2013 pride event, which will feature nearly 100 different entertainers, speakers, and organizations.
The event will be held on “Keeping in line with doing things differently, our pride event will be different from other borough’s events at its very core  as  it  will  incorporate  a  health  fair,  where  over  12  health-oriented  organizations  will  provide  on-site  health screenings that will include rapid HIV testing, blood glucose/diabetes screenings & blood pressure testings, and more.
More than 40 organizations in total have signed on to provide information and outreach to pride participants,” statedPeter C. Frank, the Center’s secretary, who also chairs their pride committee.
This year’s event is co-hosted by internationally-renown drag entertainers Appolonia Cruz
& Tyra A. Ross, with Lady Clover Honey serving as the event’s Welcome Maven. Billboard
Top 20 and MTV/LOGO recording artist Adam Barta, who is a Bronx native, will headline the event: “I’m super-excited to be rocking it out in my hometown where I was born and raised!
Can’t wait to see how Bronx does it best. And I’m so happy to be supporting such a great, new
organization,” Mr. Barta exclaimed when recently speaking about performing. He will preview his new duet with RuPaul’s Drag Race Star Pandora Boxx in his performance on Saturday.
“I support the new Bronx LGTBQ Center because they have proven to me that they are
serious about helping our Bronx LGBTQ community by putting this much needed 2013 Bronx
Gay Pride Festival / Health Fair together with zero funding, based solely on donations from
our community and supporters. All the NYC boroughs had their Gay Pride Festivals this past June & the Bronx Needed one too,” Ms. Cruz stated.
The performances will run the gamut of genres ranging from opera singer David White to
hip-hop artist  Lovari. A host of drag entertainers will be on hand, including  Diva Jackie
Dupree, who delivers  an amazing  Whitney Houston performance using live  vocals. Indie
Latina band Rok Fairies, reggae singer Barnacle Bill, R&B artist India M., pop performance artist Shadina, and rising artists Caiike and Sylvestri are just some of the nearly 40 entertainers who will perform during the six-hour pride festival.
Scheduled to appear and speak during the event are both the only father-son  and mother-daughter team of elected officials representing one area: NYC Councilwoman Maria del Carmen Arroyo  and her mother, NYS Assemblywoman Carmen E. Arroyo, along with NYS Senator Jose M. Serrano and his father, Congressman Jose E. Serrano, who will spend a significant portion of their day celebrating pride with their constituents. NYC Council Speaker  Christine C.Quinn will be on hand to celebrate with her fellow LGBTQ community, while Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.and other elected officials will also make appearances.
This year’s event was in jeopardy when the nascent organization was advised late last month of a few thousands of dollars in fees that needed to be paid to the NYC Parks Department, more than a month after they were advised the permit was approved. A number of organizations and individuals stepped forward since then to save the event: “We are thrilled to be able to support Bronx Pride in bringing these magical events to life for 2013. Giving back and helping to inspire the LGBTQ community has always been part of the mission for Heritage of Pride / NYC Pride. We are happy to be able to help in a time of need after coming off of an historic year for the community. We look forward to celebrating with our Bronx LGBTQ community members on July 20th,” says Heritage of Pride’s Managing Director, Chris Frederick.
Tym Moss, the Center’s president, added, “We are so very, very grateful to all of the individuals and organizations that came forward to ensure that our pride event would take place this year and the Bronx would not be forgotten, especially to Union Community Health Center, our neighbor to the South, Heritage of Pride / NYC Pride, and the Human Rights Campaign. And of course, we thank all of our entertainers & speakers, all of whom are so generously giving of their time.”at Crotona Park from 12 – 6 pm at the amphitheater south of Indian Lake, north of the picnic area.
Full details about the event can be found online at http://bronxpride2013.eventbrite.com/

Gay New York Resort Cherry Grove gets Historic Recognition

Decades before the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, lesbians
and gay men were living freely and openly in a place called Cherry
Grove.

The seaside resort on Fire Island,
about 60 miles east of Manhattan, was known as far back as the late
1940s as a sanctuary where gay writers, actors and businesspeople from
the city and beyond escaped to relax, hold hands and show affection in
public.

“It’s
probably one of the earliest examples of don’t ask, don’t tell,” Carl
Luss said after learning in June that the Cherry Grove Community House
and Theater, opened in 1948, added to the National Register of Historic
Places. The theater was cited for being the oldest continuously
operating gay and lesbian theater in the United States.

“The message is, we have arrived, finally,” said Diane Romano, president of the Cherry Grove Community Association.
