Gay New York Nightlife EXPOSED

Well, for better or for worse, New York Gay Nightlife was exposed to the masses this week!

You know those parties and special nights that start up, and the vibe is hip and cool, then after time, once EVERYONE knows about it, it sometimes loses it’s uniqueness.
So, this past week New York Mag did an article called  A GAY NEW TIME.

“The city’s gay subculture is experiencing another
nocturnal boomlet, thanks to a post-recession spate of new LGBT bars,
clubs, and parties. Here, a survey of the scene, complete with the
requisite go-go boys, outré drag artists, and low-key lounges for people
who just want to drink. “

Mondays  F#%K It at No Parking“A downtown dance club meets an uptown gay bar” is how promoter Kedwin
Zapata describes this Monday-night party when promoting it via Facebook.
Tuesdays WestGay at Westway have been compared to Studio 54.
Tuesday thru Sunday THE COCK has HAPPY HOUR now. 4-11pm. with go gos!
Wednesday at 11pm  is very  VIP. Les Garçons at Le Baron .  bow-tied young promoter named Michael Fragoso has ushered
dandies-in-the-making, rich architects, and the unemployed artists who
love them into Le Baron’s townhouselike environs.

Fridays Penthaus at Copacabana seems to attract young and old, gay and straight. While there’s a dance floor where younger guys let loose to pop music,
the older patrons tend to kick back on the leather banquettes, making
for a pleasantly adult outing.

Matt Anctil Broadway Bares Stripper of the Month

BROADWAY BARES  has named hottie
MATT ANCTIL their stripper of the month!

The  adorable Matt Anctil made his big Broadway debut in La Cage on Broadway  and now is traveling around the country with George Hamilton and the   La Cage National Tour.

Over the years he  has donated his time to various charities including Broadway Bares.

Matt says, “Aside from tradition, it is so important to me to be a part of Broadway
Bares because it is a wonderful example of how the entire Broadway
community comes together year after year to help our fellow human beings
with the gifts we have been given.

This is more than a show…it’s art,
it’s family, it’s celebration….a celebration of life! Honoring those
who we have lost and looking forward to each and every day we have to
live as Jerry (Mitchell) always says….FULL OUT!!!

Last year Matt was named Broadway Hero of the Month by Gay Life NYC.org. and he  had  much to say about bullying, his time in high school, the broadway
beauty pageant and all the great things he does for charity.

It’s so refreshing to see someone so young (he is 25) doing so much for charity. And he has actually been donating his time and talents for several years now! How incredible is that?!   Congratualtions Matt – from Best Gay New York.com

New Yorks Broadway FLEA MARKET & AUCTION Sept. 25

Sunday, September 25, 10 am – 7 pm
Times Square & West 44th Street, NYC

Broadway dreams can come true as you find showbiz treasures, meet the stars and bid on once-in-a-lifetime items and experiences at the 25th Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction.

Make your plans now to spend Sunday, September 25 with Broadway Cares and thousands of other theatre fans in Times Square and along West 44th Street for those one-of-a-kind keepsakes. This not-to-be-missed event for any serious Broadway theatergoer is free and open to the public and has been called one of the “Best Once-a-Year Markets” in New York City.

From photos with your favorite Broadway star to buying that lost cast recording, signed show posters and Playbills, rare costume sketches or special gift for a theatre-lover you can’t find anywhere – this year’s Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction promises to offer something for everyone.

Autograph Table & Photo Booth | Grand Auction Pre-Bids

New for 2011 are special “flash auctions” which feature instant experiences with Broadway stars live on the Grand Auction stage, including:
• Spamalot karaoke with Tony Award-nominated Spamalot star Christopher Sieber
• An on-the-spot appearance in the hit Web series “Side by Side by Susan Blackwell
• A coaching session with Chicago star Kara DioGuardi, former American Idol judge and head judge on Bravo’s Platinum Hit
• Your favorites tunes sung especially for you by Rent star Anthony Rapp and Wicked star Julia Murney
• Your outgoing voice mail message recorded in the voice of the diva of your choice by singer and comedian Christine Pedi, known for her spot-on impersonations.

It’s a flea market like no other!

Among the shows signed up for tables are The Addams Family, Anything Goes, The Book of Mormon, Follies, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Rock of Ages, Sister Act, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Wicked and Cirque Du Soleil’s Zarkana, as well as Actors’ Equity Association, The Actors Fund, Broadway Impact, The Broadway League, Givenik, Paper Mill Playhouse, Seth’s Broadway Chatterbox and United Scenic Artists.

You also can place early bids now on dozens of unique theater items and experiences that will be offered throughout the day in the silent auction and in the day’s exciting finale, the live auction. Online pre-bidding ends at 12 pm ET on Saturday, September 24.

For the first time ever, the Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction will encompass all of 44th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, and will stretch across Broadway into Times Square, filling the wide pedestrian plaza between 43rd and 44th Streets..

“We look forward to turning this year’s construction challenge into a golden, sun-drenched opportunity to expand into Times Square’s wonderful pedestrian plazas,” BC/EFA executive director Tom Viola said. “Filling Broadway between 43rd and 44th Streets, there will be booths overflowing with theatrical memorabilia and at the end of the afternoon the Grand Auction. I hope you will take the few steps across Seventh Avenue with us, as you enjoy the high energy and activity that every year stretches down 44th Street to Eighth Avenue. Whatever the terrain, the best of Broadway shows up for the Broadway Flea Market. I hope you will too!”

Dozens of tables from Broadway’s most popular shows will set up shop for what Time Out New York calls one of the “Best Once-a-Year Markets” in New York City. Fans can buy that lost cast recording, signed show posters and Playbills, rare costume sketches, props and special gifts theatre-lovers can’t find anywhere else.

Silent auction lots offered every half-hour will give way to the live Grand Auction at the end of the day featuring a collection of unique items and experiences that will offer something for everyone.

One of the most popular sites at Broadway’s “one-day sale” is the Celebrity Autograph Table at which your favorite stars from Broadway and Off-Broadway sign autographs and pose for photos in exchange for donations to BC/EFA.

Some of the celebrities this year willing to sign autographs for a $25 donation – or pose for a photo for $10 – are Adam Godley, Nick Adams, Patina Miller, Sutton Foster, Tony Sheldon, Rory O’Malley, Alice Ripley, Annaleigh Ashford, Josh Gad, Joyce DeWitt, Nikki M. James, Patrick Page, Victoria Clark, Roger Rees, Adam Pascal, Montego Glover, Beth Leavel and Charles Busch. (All appearances subject to change.)

Last year, some of the big prizes at the grand auction included a chance to appear in “Wicked” that sold for a whopping $16,500 and a tank top worn by Daniel Craig in “A Steady Rain” and signed by Craig and co-star Hugh Jackman that fetched $6,500.

The auction and market, which cost about $60,000 to produce, plus three other Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS events – the Easter Bonnet Competition, Gypsy of the Year and Broadway Bares – helped the group last year award some $10 million in grants to The Actors Fund and to more than 400 AIDS and family service organizations.

Peter & I revisits Michael Llewelyn Davies Oct 6-16th

Off Broadway rock opera
Peter & I,
will be playing at the American Theatre of Actors from
October 6th-16th.

Based on true events, Peter & I is a musical brimming with questions of faith, loss, salvation, love and immortality.  It explores the mysteries surrounding the life and death of Michael Llewelyn Davies and his lover at Oxford, Rupert Buxton.  It is believed that Michael and Rupert drowned themselves in a still pond at Oxford University just short of Michael’s 21st birthday in May 1921.

Michael, who was J.M, Barrie’s muse for Peter Pan and the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, could never escape the wonder and pain that came from being thought of as the “Pan Boy.”   Although the majority of this poignant piece takes place over 100 years ago, it themes are still very much relevant today especially in regard to the recent number of gay suicides taking place across the nation.

Was Michael gay?   Did he  kill himself in a suicide pact with his  male lover while in Oxford?
Or he may have drown, and caused his lover to drown when he tried to save him. – We may never know.

The piece explores the clash between fantasy and reality; the inertia that is a tragic necessity of our everyday lives, but also threatens to take over our dreams. The beauty of this piece is its ability to give new light to the characters we know and love; the humanity and depth behind the fairy tale.

Peter & I stars Aynsley Bubbico (TV’s GREEK, How I Met Your Mother, Jersey Shoresical), Chris Dwan, Ben Hart (Avenue Q), Geoffrey Kidwell, Emily Padgett (Rock of Ages, Grease), and  the oh-so handsome Jared Zirilli  (Wicked  and  AIDA – photo above).

Book and lyrics for Peter & I were written by Matte O’Brien who will also direct the show. Music was composed by Matt Vinson. Amanda Morton (16 Days) is the Musical Director for the piece.

Priscilla On Broadway Hits 100! And Nick Adams Tells All!

It appears that producer Bette Midler, has a hit on her hands!  Following hit productions in Australia, London and Toronto, Priscilla Queen of the Desert opened to critical acclaim on March 20 at the Palace Theatre and recently celebrated it’s 100th performance on Broadway. It’s the feel-good, happy joyous show of the year! Sequins and lights, feathers and fringe, it’s a spectacular big party, not to be missed!

Priscilla’s global success and now Broadway  is growing at leaps and bounds.  #1 Cast recording on Billboard charts; #1 selling new musical on Broadway this season;  Priscilla  recently joined the Millionaires Club with box office earnings!

Heck, Governor Cuomo even held his fundraiser at Priscilla last week  and Australian actor Tony Sheldon (Bernadette) is up for  a Tony this weekend. Sheldon says, “after 3 years of edits of changes and revisions, I  think this is the PRIMO PRISCILLA!”  –  Sheldon has played the part Bernadette over 1,000 times in Australia and London alone!  FYI …Tony Sheldon has been nominated for every award he’s eligible for on Broadway this season including Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League awards and a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. He has been honored with a Theatre World Award for his Broadway debut.     And his AUNT  is  70’s pop star Helen Reddy.

The show also stars WILL SWENSON (Tick/Mitzi) and  Broadway Darling  NICK ADAMS (Adam/Felicia)  who was nominated for the 2011 Astaire Award for Best Male Dancer and won two Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards for Favorite Breakthrough Performance and Favorite Diva Performance for his performance in Priscilla.

We caught up with Nick last week, who took time to chat with BestGayNewYork.com about the show and other New York things….

BGNY: 20 dance-floor classics and a dazzling array of more than 500 outrageous costumes, 200 hats and headdresses and 72 wigs ! And you wear 21 costumes!  WOW!

Nick: I have a dresser who helps me backstage. He  is with me the entire show, but we sometimes have 4 people hidden in the bus helping me make a quick change. My favorite is the silver suit I wear atop the shoe.

I know, it’s crazy! When we started rehearsing the show – without even adding in the costumes or lighting – I lost like 15 pounds. It’s like non-stop dancing, cardio and sweating. It’s quite a workout, so I don’t have worry about about cardio – which I hate. And they wanted to me to lose a bit of my muscle – so that has been nice – not having to spend so much time at the gym!

And Nick comments on his co-stars Tony and Will : They are a dream team. I love those men like family. We are a family. The chemistry onstage is so true because we are thick as thieves offstage. I have never worked with such encouraging, inspiring actors. They make me better every night.

BGNY: How does it feel  to create an original leading Broadway role?

Nick: Well,  it’s interesting cause anytime anybody ever said like, “Do you have a dream role?” That’s what I would say is that “I wanted to originate a role and in a new Broadway show.” I think it’s been the most like exciting and freeing experience because I’ve had the liberty to sort of just play in and bring a lot of like what I thought I wanted to bring to it, and our creative team, our director really allowed me to kind of have my own spin on it and bring a different energy to this part and then in the West End Production and what they had in Australia.

As actors, what we wanna do is to really feel like we’re creating character and not mimicking somebody else’s performance or fitting like a specific mold of a different actor, so to get to like build this person from the ground up has been awesome to know that, for always and like theatrical history that would have been my role. Pretty great.

BGNY: Your first love is Broadway –  that’s obvious. But I saw you in An Englishman in New York and Sex and the City 2 , you have done a couple soaps….Do you want to do more acting on film?

Nick: Oh, absolutely. I mean I grew up wanting to be an actor and my dream was to do Broadway shows. I don’t know, I just love live theater and I love that like instant sort of gratification of an audience sitting there and getting to see their response, that’s really exciting to me.

To be completely honest, I mean the most lucrative side of acting is with TV and film, financially. So, absolutely. I absolutely want to explore more of that.  I just kept notching off goals, each show that I did sort of fulfilled some type of goal of mine. At times I feel like I’ve maxed out on the Broadway scene and  it’s  like, what else can I do  to top this now?   Which is mind-blowing to me that I’ve done it. So now I’ve just set some new sites on some other things. Broadway is always gonna be where I feel like home and my place, but I definitely wanna move into some areas that could help me pay my rent a little bit more.

BGNY: Now that you’ve done so much, is your goal list getting  longer or shorter?

Nick: I think it gets longer, ‘cause I think each one unlocks a new possibility. It’s longer ‘cause when I was a kid it was like, “I wanna be on Broadway.” And then it was, “I wanna be starring in a Broadway show.” And now it keeps growing. I think it’s healthy though, keeps me motivated, keeps me pro-active.

BGNY: What about more singing??  I saw (heard) some YouTubes Video of you singing…Is there a Nick Adams CD possibly in your future? ( NY State of Mind  and After Party 2 and  OnTheOtherSide )

Nick: Actually…potentially…there could be. I did a concert at Birdland, it was a one man show, they invited me to come do a night. It was so much work to put together, but yet so much fun and so rewarding. It was like an hour and half of me singing, with a three piece band and it was great. And that was maybe the first time I really thought about a cd or recording….I am not a song writer by any means. But a lot of people have expressed interest in  me possibly doing something. I started out as a singer first and foremost as a kid. And now with Priscilla, it’s given me a chance to really show people what I can do. So who knows – we’ll see!

BGNY: As an out actor, do you look to Broadway leading men like Cheyenne Jackson for inspiration?

Nick:
Absolutely —If there was a career I could model mine after, it would be Cheyenne Jackson because he is fantastic, incredibly talented, and active in the gay community. I’ve just started  to dabble in some TV and film, and I think it’s sort of the natural way it goes. If you have a successful theater career, it’s a much easier transition. I’ve always just wanted to be an actor… in any genre. I’m hoping the opportunities open up even more than they already have. I aspire to be like Cheyenne  because he comes from the ensemble and was an understudy and then a leading man. It’s so surreal this is actually what’s happened to me.

On opening night, he sent me this huge bouquet of orchids to my dressing room and this amazing card that’s taped on my vanity. When I was in college, I came to the city and I saw “All Shook Up” and Cheyenne was the star and I thought he was amazing and knew that’s what I wanted to do. So now, being in the same theater and having him send me those flowers, its just crazy how things work out.

BGNY: Since this is Best Gay New York – we’re always looking for what’s hot, what’s new, what’s next – any favorite place you want to share with us?

Nick: There is this new place, I have been raving about! It’s right in the theatre district, in Hells Kitchen, on 9th Avenue  between 45-46th, and it’s called Ember Room. It just opened a couple months ago and is some of the best food I have ever had!

It’s sort of an Asian American Fusion sort of Barbeque…they have things like Chocolate Ribs, Red Chilli Sea Bass, Bacon wrapped meatloaf…everything is so beautifully presented and the flavor is unlike anything I have ever had. I have been there three times in the last week! I am trying to get through everything on the menu! And it’s reasonable – especially for this neighborhood. The other night we had 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and a bottle of Proseco, for under $100. The portions are hearty and the quality is amazing. I’m obsessed with the place!

BGNY: Obviously, theater keeps you in NY – do you love, love, love NY? Or could you see yourself anywhere else?

Nick: I love this city. I think even if I didn’t do this, I would still want to be here. When I was about 15 years old, I came here for the first time, and I knew I wanted to do theater and be an actor, but I had never been here. We drove here from Pennsylvania with my family, and the minute I could see the city, the minute the skyline came into view, I was just overwhelmed with this sense of…that’s my home, that’s where I am going to live. And I never get tired or over it here. If leave or go on vacation, I can’t wait to get back. Even though it can be hectic here and the energy like…maniacal at times…I guess I crave that.  I love the warm weather and the beaches in Los Angels and California…and that is something I could definitely get into – but I could never not have a place here in the city. I think I will always have to have a place here.

BGNY: It’s the same thing for us when we come to NY – there is this ENERGY here.

Nick: Yeah, it’s like the center of the universe. I love it that someone can come to this city and make shit happen! It’s so crazy to think that I came here from this little small town and now doing the things I dreamt of as a little kid – and this is where I made it happen – and I think with any profession – you come here, and everything is at your fingertips. It really is a magical place. I love it here!

Broadway Bares XXI MASTERPIECE June 19th

BROADWAY BARES XXI:
MASTERPIECE

will be held on
Sunday, June 19
 with two performances
at     9:30 pm & Midnight

at Roseland Ballroom,
239 West 52nd Street
in New York.

A benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, BROADWAY BARES XXI: MASTERPIECE will offer up a modern-day burlesque show packed with museum-quality human canvases that would make an art critic blush.

It’s been said that “all art is erotic” and 200 of Broadway’s sexiest bodies will prove that to be true as the 21st edition of BROADWAY BARES takes you inside an auction too hot for Sotheby’s and Christie’s.

The most delectable dancers in New York will emulate the art world’s seductive nudes and give life to history’s sultriest sculptures.  Handle these masterpieces with care or fig leaves, sunflowers and water lilies just might fall off into the crowd. Get your bidding paddles ready before these Broadway bodies of art are “going, going, gone.”

To see the New York Times’ exclusive first look at the posters for this year’s BROADWAY BARES and to read an interview with BARES photographer Andrew Eccles.

BROADWAY BARES XXI: MASTERPIECE is produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, executive produced by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Catch Me If You Can, Legally Blonde) and will again be directed by Josh Rhodes (Sondheim: The Birthday Concert, The Drowsy Chaperone, Working at the Broadway Playhouse in Chicago).

BROADWAY BARES, the hotly anticipated annual event combining the naughtiness of burlesque and the razzle-dazzle of Broadway, has been a smashing success since its inception in 1992. The event features the hottest male and female dancers on Broadway and has become one of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ signature events. The first Broadway Bares featured seven dancers performing choreographed stripteases on a bar and raised more than $8,000. In all 20 editions, BROADWAY BARES has collectively raised more than $7.5 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Gay Cult Classic Secret of Dorian Gray Finally Available on DVD in US

OSCAR WILDE’s DECADENT CLASSIC
WITH A CULT GAY FOLLOWING!

THE SECRET OF DORIAN GRAY IS A HARD-TO-FIND PULP GEM!  Avavilable for the first time in the US  MAY 17th.

RaroVideo U.S. will release THE SECRET OF DORIAN GRAY on DVD May 17. Never before released on DVD in the U.S., this is a seventies classic Italian film restored to its original splendor.

In case you don’t know the story –  In London, a wealthy, god-like, young man, Dorian Gray, loves Sybil, an aspiring actress; thanks to her, he’s momentarily less self-centered. He’s also sitting, scantily clad, for a portrait painted by his ascot-wearing friend, Basil. When it’s done, Dorian complains he’ll grow old while it stays unchanged- the classic plight of the vain.

On the same night, as if he has sold his soul to the devil, exchanging vanity for morality, he ends it with Sybil, and then accepts the seductive offer of a party’s hostess to sleep with her. The next day, the painting looks slightly older. In horror and fascination, Dorian hides it away and continues a life of degradation. Over time, as the portrait becomes hideous, he’s unchanged by his ever-increasing libidinal life; finally, he and Basil face the painting. The exceptionally groovy score by Giuseppe De Luca enhances the seventies milieu.

THE SECRET OF DORIAN GRAY has been newly restored from the original 35mm negative.

You Tube has a fun tribute to the film and Helmut Berger (the star of the film). He was SO SEXY!!

AND  CHECK THIS OUT!

Get ready to read The Picture of Dorian Gray — the way Oscar Wilde intended to to be read. More than 120 years after the classic’s initial release, the original version is about to be published, according to The Telegraph.

Before its serialized publication in Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine in 1890, Wilde’s editor made a number of changes to tone down the book’s homoerotic content. References to the protagonist’s lovers as “mistresses” and other “decadent” phrases were also removed.

One phrase from the original — “it is quite true I have worshipped you with far more romance of feeling than a man should ever give to a friend” — was changed to —”From the moment I met you, your personality had the most extraordinary influence on me.”

Even with the changes, critics called the book “vulgar” and “unclean,” and more passages were removed. Now, editor Nicholas Frankel says it’s finally time to publish the original, and “bring it out of the closet” for a 21st century audience.

Nick Adams Aids Walk New York Fundraising Efforts

We just saw PRISCILLA on Broadway  this week!  WOW!  What an eye-popping, show-stopping performance!  Everyone does a fantastic job, but of course, our heart has always belonged to Nick Adams, since I first saw him onstage in 2005.

We’ll be covering it more in a couple weeks, and catching up with the ever adorable, super-talented Nick Adams with an interview right here at BestGayNewYork.com, in the coming weeks!

But for now, you should know,  will be singing at the kick off of the 2011 AIDS Walk NY on May 15th!

And Nick is walking and raising money again this year.  Nick is part of the BROADWAY IMPACT group which is a community of actors, directors, stage managers, fans, producers — pretty much anyone who has ever seen, been in or worked on a Broadway show — united by the simple belief that anyone who wants to should be able to get married.
“We’re  very proud to be apart of the 2011 NY Aids Walk!”

Nick gives, and gives and gives whenever he can to great causes like Broadway Bares and AIDS WALK NY.  (He has even been crowned Broadway Hero by GayLifeNYC.org.)  “I enjoy giving my time to great causes, and it makes me feel good to know I can help in some way.”

Nick sent us this note, to share with our readers….

Hey Friends! I just wanted to take a minute to ask for your help in raising money for AIDS WALK NYC. The cast of Priscialla is raising money for this worthy cause, and I thought it would be great if my fans rallied together and gave the most.

If we can reach my personal goal of raising $3,000 I will pick one lucky subscriber to recieve an autographed program from the show. If we hit $6,000 I will send out 5 autographed programs, and if we break $15,000 I will send someone special a program autographed by everyone in the entire cast!

Additionally, anyone donating $500 or more, I will send them an autographed program (simply email us a proof of donation along with your shipping address).

Nick Adams’ Donation Page for AIDS WALK NYC

UPDATE  !!!  Monday May 2nd –

Thanks for everyone who donated after my last e-mail for AIDS Walk NYC! I was able to break my original goal of $3,000 and am now the #1 fundraiser from the cast! Thanks!

I wanted to up the stakes and see if we could get some more folks giving. If you’ve ever dreamt about getting a backstage tour of Priscilla from me, this is your chance. For every person that gives $500 or more, I will arrange to give you a personal backstage tour. Simply get tickets to the show of your choice and I’ll meet you after the show and give you a private tour. Some people have been paying $5,000 – $10,000 to get backstage tours, so to be able to get one in exchange for a tax deductible dontation of only $500, is AMAZING.

Gay Life NYC.org Talks with Jonathan D. Lovitz

This week Michael Cavnaugh
from
Gay Life NYC.org
turns his camera on JONATHAN D. LOVITZ –
Broadway Hero of the  month.

Actor, singer and model Jonathan D. Lovitz  stands out in a crowd.  Jonathan has an extensive stage resume and is as down home as apple pie!

Jonathan is one of those actors who exudes positive energy that effects those around him. His smile, is without a doubt contagious.

You may have read his name earlier this month

gay man was excused from jury duty in New York last week because he said that discrimination against gays makes him a second-class citizen and therefore he couldn’t be impartial.

Jonathan wrote on his Facebook page, “I raised my hand and said, ‘Since I can’t get married or adopt a child in the state of New York, I can’t possibly be an impartial judge of a citizen when I am considered a second class citizen in the eyes of the justice system.’”

“And he got off the case!” reported Village Voice columnist Michael Musto. “And that’s how the new phenomenon of ‘jury duty blocking’ was born.”

Jonathan is also a part of Setup Squad premiering this month on Logo.

the scoop –  No-nonsense Renee Lee has the business solution for people who stink at dating: she hooks them up with professional “wing” women and men from her agency.

From the producers of “Pawn Stars,” “Setup Squad” is a docu-reality series where relationship misfits get saved from themselves by experts who coach them in ‘the art of the pickup.’ The “wing” women and men are snappy and sexy: two straight women, a lesbian, and a gay man (hunky Broadway star, Jonathan D. Lovitz) – all fierce and fun and full of opinions about their ineffectual clients.

They give clients a crash dating makeover, transforming them from ‘shabby & shy’ to ‘chic & confident’. Then they provide a real shot at love, breaking the ice for them in social settings. Then the real dramas unfold. Will they land the deal? Or get snubbed by their intended target? And what happens when one of the experts gets a little too cozy with their client? Find out in this highly charged reality series combining the most sizzling parts of dating shows with the most electric elements of workplace dramas.’

Jonathan says, “What started off as being the youngest kid in the family dying for attention had turned into an incredibly exciting life in theatre, film, and tv.

After years wanting to be an engineer, astronaut, and diplomat I landed on the next logical career choice: actor and entertainer!

I’ve been so blessed (and so jetlagged) to have traveled to all 50 states as well as amazing destinations in North America and Europe performing in things as varied as big Broadway musicals to insane 24-hour commercial shoots. I feel like the luckiest man on Earth, and I hope it’s just the beginning!”

Jonathan has  worked consistently as a stage actor and dedicated countless hours to organizations such as Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. His participation included the annual Broadway Flea Market and Broadway Bares. He was a special performer at the Broadway Bares: Classic event held to honor the best of the first 20 years of Broadway Bares, recreating Pan from 2007’s “Myth Behavior” and later danced with Vanessa Williams in the opening of Broadway Bares XX: Strip-Opoly. He also appears regularly at events throughout New York City for organizations including the Ali Forney Center and UCP of NYC.
