NY Posts Andrea Peyser calls Chaz A Drag On Us

IN Monday’s edition of the New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser took it upon herself to find fault with Chaz doing what he has done and in the commentary titled “Chaz a real drag for gay community” not only shows her ignorance of being transgender but also knows nothing of the story of Chaz’s decision to seek his true self and in what this writer and I would dare say others who read the column would classify Peyser’s commentary as nothing less than homophobic.

Peyser uses a couple of LGBT groups or websites and their indignation over Chaz plus spews her own venom as in this opening sentence, Now — to her mom’s horror and the dismay of her lesbian girlfriend — she’s transformed. Chastity has morphed into the body of a plump, seemingly happy-go-lucky, middle-aged guy named Chaz.

Our buddy  and AP Award Winning Journalist LYNDON EVANS gives his 2 cents over at  Focus on the Rainbow.  It’s a MUST-READ!

Broadway Bares XXI MASTERPIECE June 19th

BROADWAY BARES XXI:
MASTERPIECE

will be held on
Sunday, June 19
 with two performances
at     9:30 pm & Midnight

at Roseland Ballroom,
239 West 52nd Street
in New York.

A benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, BROADWAY BARES XXI: MASTERPIECE will offer up a modern-day burlesque show packed with museum-quality human canvases that would make an art critic blush.

It’s been said that “all art is erotic” and 200 of Broadway’s sexiest bodies will prove that to be true as the 21st edition of BROADWAY BARES takes you inside an auction too hot for Sotheby’s and Christie’s.

The most delectable dancers in New York will emulate the art world’s seductive nudes and give life to history’s sultriest sculptures.  Handle these masterpieces with care or fig leaves, sunflowers and water lilies just might fall off into the crowd. Get your bidding paddles ready before these Broadway bodies of art are “going, going, gone.”

To see the New York Times’ exclusive first look at the posters for this year’s BROADWAY BARES and to read an interview with BARES photographer Andrew Eccles.

BROADWAY BARES XXI: MASTERPIECE is produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, executive produced by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Catch Me If You Can, Legally Blonde) and will again be directed by Josh Rhodes (Sondheim: The Birthday Concert, The Drowsy Chaperone, Working at the Broadway Playhouse in Chicago).

BROADWAY BARES, the hotly anticipated annual event combining the naughtiness of burlesque and the razzle-dazzle of Broadway, has been a smashing success since its inception in 1992. The event features the hottest male and female dancers on Broadway and has become one of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ signature events. The first Broadway Bares featured seven dancers performing choreographed stripteases on a bar and raised more than $8,000. In all 20 editions, BROADWAY BARES has collectively raised more than $7.5 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Tickets can be purchased online at Broadwaycares.org or by calling 212.840.0770, ext 268.  For more information and merchandise, visit Broadwaybares.com.

Although Cancer can be one of the most
challenging of adversities to overcome – those who are personally living with it, are some of the strongest people I know! I truly admire the attitude that my own friends have taken on and the determined mind-set they have chosen to battle this beast.

Hudson Taylor and Lea Delaria at Q TALK May 21

God I love a wrestler in a singlet!

And this big straightie, loves  gays  and  will be in NYC  MAY   21 for the Q TALK SHOW.

Hudson Taylor, All-American Wrestler and Columbia University Wrestling Coach
Hudson Taylor is a three-time NCAA Division I All-American wrestler and Columbia University coach. He is the first three-time All-American in the University of Maryland’s wrestling history and holds several hall-of-fame records. Hudson’s career places him among the top-five pinners in NCAA history. He is currently training to compete internationally with an eye toward the Olympic Games.

Hudson, a heterosexual athlete and a committed LGBT advocate, is determined to eliminate homophobia in sports.

After wearing a gay rights sticker on his wrestling headgear during competitions, The Advocate named Hudson one of the “Top 150 Reasons to Have Gay Pride in 2010.”  He has also been featured on ESPN as a leading LGBT ally and called “the most exciting wrestler in the world” by Sports Illustrated. In March 2011, PFLAG also awarded Hudson with the “Straight for Equality in Sports” Award at their 3rd Annual Gala in New York City.

In December 2010 Hudson founded Athlete Ally, a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging athletes, coaches, parents, fans and other members of the sports community to respect all individuals involved in sports, regardless of perceived or actual sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

Through social networking campaigns, on-campus trainings and additional practical tools, Athlete Ally encourages athletes, coaches and others to eliminate all forms of homophobia in sports. As a guest lecturer and keynote speaker at schools and colleges across the country, Hudson emphasizes the athlete’s responsibility to lead in the fight for respect and inclusion in sports. Hudson has been featured live on MSNBC with Thomas Roberts to discuss Athlete Ally and the organization’s mission to challenge homophobia in sports.

In addition to his work with Athlete Ally, Hudson serves on the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Sport’s Project Advisory Board, led by Dr. Pat Griffin, Professor Emeritus in the Social Justice Education Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. This initiative works with K-12 schools to create an athletic environment that encourages respect, safety and inclusion for all students and coaches.

Hudson is also authoring a book entitled, The Athlete Ally: Empowering a New Era of Leadership and Inclusion in Sports. A work in progress, The Athlete Ally will inspire and guide coaches, athletes, administrators, fans and parents to redefine sportsmanship and what it means to be an athlete and a leader.

Hudson draws inspiration for his advocacy from his great-great-great grandfather James Hudson Taylor, a 19th century British Protestant missionary to China who converted more than 18,000 people to Christianity. As a result of this lineage, LGBT-affirming Christian groups have turned to Hudson to discuss the intersection of respect and inclusion for LGBT individuals with Christian moral principles.

FLORENT Queen of the MeatMarket opens theatrically May 20th

IF YOU MISSED THIS LAST YEAR,
Here is your chance to see it!
FLORENT!  QUEEN OF THE MEATMARKET!

Let Julianne Moore, Isaac Mizrahi, Michael Musto and other famous (and infamous) faces take you on a fantastic voyage to New York City’s legendary Florent diner.

For 23 years, the all-night eatery in the city’s Meat Packing District was prime stomping ground for a surprising mix of A-list celebrities, tourists, families and club kids, and it played an important role in LGBT activism and culture. This wildly entertaining documentary chronicles the history and final days of this outrageous icon!

David Sigal’s docu is a paean to French expat and gay activist Florent Morellet and the restaurant he established in Gotham’s decidedly unglamorous Meatpacking District. A unique haven defined not by exclusivity but by its wholehearted embrace of diversity, Florent’s became a fabled hangout for locals, hookers, families, celebrities, performance artists, club boys and blue-haired old ladies. Exuberant pic will wow gay markets but could expand further, Morellet’s appeal being as broad-based as his clientele.

When Sigal started shooting in January 2008, little did he imagine he would be chronicling the last days of a 25-year-old Greenwich Village institution. Florent’s forced closure (caused by an astronomical rent increase) lends a nostalgic conclusiveness to the anecdotes offered by those who frequented the venue, drawn to the warm informality of Morellet and his enlightened wait staff throughout its quarter-century history. (Morellet’s ingenious five-week countdown to eviction, each week dedicated to one of the Kubler-Ross stages of grief, also supplies Sigal with a perfect story arc.)

Like the Stonewall Inn, Florent is such an important piece of our history.

LGBT ACADEMY OF RECORDING ARTS (LARA) 7th ANNUAL OUTMUSIC AWARDS May 23

THE BIGGEST NIGHT IN LGBT ENTERTAINMENT
IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER

THE LGBT ACADEMY OF
RECORDING ARTS (LARA)
WILL HOST
 7th ANNUAL
OUTMUSIC AWARDS

AT IRVING PLAZA
 MAY 23, 2011 AT 8 P.M.

Celebrating  20 years of music history while honoring and documenting the contributions of openly LGBTQ recording artists and performers in the music industry.

Originally scheduled for December 2010, the OUTMUSIC Awards were postponed due to economic difficulties. However, in response to the postponement, the organization has received overwhelming offers of support from companies and individuals in the community.

“So many openly gay recording artists and entertainers like Melissa Etheridge, Ricky Martin, Elton John, Ellen DeGeneres, Lance Bass and many others have exemplified courage to come out as an effort to erase the stigma associated with being openly gay in the music & entertainment industry,” says Diedra Meredith, chairwoman and CEO of OUTMUSIC –The LARA.  “We continue alongside these entertainment greats with our mission to bring awareness to these artists’ contributions in the music industry and do away with the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy many have adopted.  We are happy to support these individuals and our many Academy members by honoring and documenting the success each has achieved that would, often time, be overlooked with the 7th Annual OUTMUSIC Awards.”

The OUTMUSIC Awards ceremony is the biggest night in LGBT entertainment and only organization of its kind in the world.   The highest and most prestigious honor in LGBT music, the 2010 OMAs will be hosted by Comedienne Tammy Peay with special appearance by Jonathan D. Lovitz and cast of Logo TV’s hit show “The Setup Squad”, Sahara Davenport of RuPaul’s Drag Race, cast from Logo TV’s the A-List, .

Nick Adams Aids Walk New York Fundraising Efforts

We just saw PRISCILLA on Broadway  this week!  WOW!  What an eye-popping, show-stopping performance!  Everyone does a fantastic job, but of course, our heart has always belonged to Nick Adams, since I first saw him onstage in 2005.

We’ll be covering it more in a couple weeks, and catching up with the ever adorable, super-talented Nick Adams with an interview right here at BestGayNewYork.com, in the coming weeks!

But for now, you should know,  will be singing at the kick off of the 2011 AIDS Walk NY on May 15th!

And Nick is walking and raising money again this year.  Nick is part of the BROADWAY IMPACT group which is a community of actors, directors, stage managers, fans, producers — pretty much anyone who has ever seen, been in or worked on a Broadway show — united by the simple belief that anyone who wants to should be able to get married.
“We’re  very proud to be apart of the 2011 NY Aids Walk!”

Nick gives, and gives and gives whenever he can to great causes like Broadway Bares and AIDS WALK NY.  (He has even been crowned Broadway Hero by GayLifeNYC.org.)  “I enjoy giving my time to great causes, and it makes me feel good to know I can help in some way.”

Nick sent us this note, to share with our readers….

Hey Friends! I just wanted to take a minute to ask for your help in raising money for AIDS WALK NYC. The cast of Priscialla is raising money for this worthy cause, and I thought it would be great if my fans rallied together and gave the most.

If we can reach my personal goal of raising $3,000 I will pick one lucky subscriber to recieve an autographed program from the show. If we hit $6,000 I will send out 5 autographed programs, and if we break $15,000 I will send someone special a program autographed by everyone in the entire cast!

Additionally, anyone donating $500 or more, I will send them an autographed program (simply email us a proof of donation along with your shipping address).

For every person that gives $500 or more, I will arrange to give you a personal backstage tour. Bruce Vilanch at Queens Theatre May 7th

Bruce Vilanch is a comedy writer, songwriter and actor, who is “One of the most sought-after jokesmiths in the entertainment industry”.

The six-time Emmy Award-winner is known to those ‘in the know’ in Hollywood and New York as “the fat guy who writes everyone’s jokes.”

He is best known as a writer for TV awards shows; he’s co-written 21 Oscar broadcasts, as well as a featured writer for the Tonys, Grammys and Emmys and his 4-year stint on Hollywood Squares, as both a performer and writer.

This years Oscars with James Franco – was a little…strange….

New York magazine caught up with Bruce Vilanch recently and asked him what happened.

“I have to call James Franco and tell him the show’s over,” Vilanch quipped. “He doesn’t know. He took a nap and he woke up in class.”

Was Vilanch saying Franco’s sleepy performance was due to an actual lack of sleep?

“He has so many balls in the air, he didn’t get to town till Thursday before the show on Sunday. And so we e-mailed a lot. But we had a lot of meetings. He had a bunch of people who were writing for him, and if it had been him alone, it would have been different. But it was him and Anne Hathaway, and they both had to be serviced. So there was a lot of communication beforehand. But he didn’t get there.”

Vilanch continued: “I don’t think he realized how big a deal it is to do it until he was actually confronted with it. I think he thought he would kind of … I don’t know what he thought. I thought maybe it was a performance-art prank, and then I realized he sincerely wanted to do it. But it’s outside of those guys’ comfort zones. The only people who know how to host those shows are people who get up onstage every night and say, ‘Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. A funny thing happened … ‘ Or people like Bette [Midler] who get up and sing all night and tell stories.”

Was Franco maybe stoned, as was rumored? “No, he wasn’t high,” Vilanch said. “I was with him, and he wasn’t high. And I asked him, ‘Are you high, and can I have some?’ And he said no to both.”

BRUCE is  performing on May 7th at Queens Theatre in the Park.

Tickets are $37, Senior $35, Student $22 and are now available online at Queens Theatre or by calling 718-760-0064. Tickets may also be purchased in-person at the Box Office,  1 hour prior to performances, if available.

Jesse Archer Has Fire Island Web Series in the Works

Fire Island has long been established as New York’s “Gay Summer Wonderland” and in recent years has had an influx of international visitors keen to spend time in this truly unique resort, almost exclusively populated by gay men during the summer months.

What better place for a gay comedy series?!

A new comedy series from the creators of

A Four Letter Word & Violet Tendencies

Jesse Archer and Sean Hanley.

Fire Island Pines is where the sun meets the sand—free of hesitation, oppression, or explanation!  It’s the fantasy every gay man dreamed of as a child—The Island of Misfit Boys!

Check your inhibitions on the mainland and hop aboard the fairy ferry to a land where carefree men frolic in the skimpiest fashions as if the stuffy outside world didn’t exist.  Stroll exclusive boardwalks where the flip-flops are fierce and the only thing stronger than the golden Adonis-like men are the cocktails at Low Tea!

Take a peek into the lives of one summer house in Half-Share.  Sometimes debaucherous, usually randy, and always outrageous…  When you share a house on Fire Island with six gay men, anything can happen.  And often does!

We live in the Web 3.0 world, where anything is possible.

Video may have killed the radio star, but the internet is definitely reviving the careers of the TV star!  When Lisa Kudrow (Friends) was unable to get the roles she wanted, she decided to co-produce the original Internet comedy Web Therapy.  After three successful online seasons, Showtime was so impressed they bought it for their lineup.  Similarly, the TV hospital spoof Childrens Hospital (Rob Corddry—Hot Tub Time Machine), was launched as a web-series and just made its network premiere after being snapped up by the Cartoon Network.

Today, content creators are easily able to distribute through many avenues: DVD (compilations in this case), Video On Demand, iTunes, YouTube, Netflix, and future revenue generating outlets of online streaming.  Apple has iTunes and Apple TV, Microsoft has built Windows Media Center into virtually every copy of Windows 7, Google TV is on the horizon, and all of Google’s increasingly popular Android phones come with the YouTube app pre-installed.

HALF SHARE is utilizing all of these tactics, in addition to taking advantage of new media technology (when it is released) to ensure that Half-Share becomes the kind of success detailed in the examples above.
