Priscilla to Close June 24th – Gay Pride Day

The Broadway musical “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,”  will
play its final show at the Palace Theater on June 24. Gay Pride Day.

I thought it run forever.  🙁

The musical, which is directed by Simon Phillips and features a book by
Mr. Elliott and Allan Scott as well as a score of disco-friendly pop
hits, opened in March 2011 and won the Tony Award that year for its
costume design by Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner.

Tony Sheldon, who
played the role of the transsexual Bernadette – on Broadway as well as
previous productions in Australia, Toronto and London’s West End – was
also nominated for leading actor in a musical. “Priscilla” will have
played 23 previews and 526 performances at its closing.

A spokesman for
the show said that it would not recoup its capitalization costs, which
totaled $15 million for the Broadway run and a pre-Broadway tryout in
Toronto.
