KAZAKY at XL March 30th, 2013 Secret Mission Tour

These guys are so sexy and so hot! I want to have sex with each of them!!

KAZAKY is Artur, Oleg, Kirill and Stas!
Kazaky is a Ukrainian all-male house-electro-synthpop dance group, originally made up of Kyryll Fedorenko, Artur Gaspar, Stas Pavlov and Oleg Zhezhel.
In  July 2011, they made their American debut at Club 57 in New York City, and performed their third single “I’m Just a Dancer” for the first time. They worked it out at the Dsquared2 SS 2012 Fashion show!
March 30th, 2013 Kazaky will be back in NYC, at XL, for the world premiere of their SECRET MISSION TOUR!! Advance tickets on sale now!
Assembled in Kiev in 2010 by Oleg Zhezhel, a skilled choreographer, the group has released several singles, three EPs and one album. The group confronts gender norms by fusing masculine and feminine attributes together, most notably by regularly wearing stiletto heels in videos and live performances.
In August 2011, Pavlov left the group and was replaced by Francesco Borgato. On February 26, 2013, Borgato announced his departure from the group to pursue a solo career. Former member Stas Pavlov rejoined the group immediately after Borgato’s departure, and he is featured in the group’s new track and video, “Crazy Law”, released  2 weeks ago.
I am so excited Kazaky is coming back to the US and appearing at XL.
It will be a show not to miss!

Rawhide: Iconic Gay Bar in New York will Close

The rent goes up…

and we lose an iconic gay bar in New York.

New York gay bar Rawhide is expected to close its doors by the end of the month.

Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York
blog reports that the leather bar’s landlord will raise the rent from
$15,000 to $27,000, effectively pricing the establishment out of its
Chelsea location at Eighth Avenue and 21st Street. The last day of
operation will  be March 31.

As Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York and Towleroad both
point out, New York City mayoral hopeful Christine Quinn spoke fondly
of the establishment, which opened in 1978, as part of a recent New York magazine profile

Guerrilla Gay Bar New York

What
is GUERRILLA GAY BAR NY?

GUERRILLA GAY BAR NY (GGBNY)
is a combination of flashmob and the French Revolution. Only much,
much gayer (Fewer decapitations and less powdered wigs).
Once a month, we will take over one of the straightest bars we
can find in NYC.  We won’t tell them we’re coming – we just
show up – by the hundreds – and make ourselves at home.

When
is GGBNY?
On the 3rd Friday of every month you are invited,
as long as you are gay, lesbian, trans, bi, or a friend, and are
game for the challenge.

Who
inspired GUERRILLA GAY BAR NY?
GGBNY is inspired by our
GGB comrades in LA, San Fran, Boston, and others who want to branch
out beyond the gay bars and make a straight place GAY once a month
(as if it is their choice).

How
do I find out where GUERRILLA GAY BAR NY takes place?

Trick is, we won’t announce our shindig’s digs until the day before
the party – we don’t wanna give them any notice. So, the only
way to know where to go for the party is to rsvp via our newsletter/website
(see the link above) or via our facebook and twitter.  We
will inform everyone of the location one day prior to the event.
Once you get the invite details, spread the word!

WHY
DO THIS?
Field trip!!!  And, to show the straight
community our community and encourage them to support diversity.
GUERRILLA GAY BAR NY will give the straight world
a chance to see, mingle, and interact with the LGBT community
on a personal level.

Gay New York Nightlife EXPOSED

Well, for better or for worse, New York Gay Nightlife was exposed to the masses this week!

You know those parties and special nights that start up, and the vibe is hip and cool, then after time, once EVERYONE knows about it, it sometimes loses it’s uniqueness.
So, this past week New York Mag did an article called  A GAY NEW TIME.

“The city’s gay subculture is experiencing another
nocturnal boomlet, thanks to a post-recession spate of new LGBT bars,
clubs, and parties. Here, a survey of the scene, complete with the
requisite go-go boys, outré drag artists, and low-key lounges for people
who just want to drink. “

Mondays  F#%K It at No Parking“A downtown dance club meets an uptown gay bar” is how promoter Kedwin
Zapata describes this Monday-night party when promoting it via Facebook.
Tuesdays WestGay at Westway have been compared to Studio 54.
Tuesday thru Sunday THE COCK has HAPPY HOUR now. 4-11pm. with go gos!
Wednesday at 11pm  is very  VIP. Les Garçons at Le Baron .  bow-tied young promoter named Michael Fragoso has ushered
dandies-in-the-making, rich architects, and the unemployed artists who
love them into Le Baron’s townhouselike environs.

Fridays Penthaus at Copacabana seems to attract young and old, gay and straight. While there’s a dance floor where younger guys let loose to pop music,
the older patrons tend to kick back on the leather banquettes, making
for a pleasantly adult outing.

Ballet With a Twist at New Yorks Biggest Gay Club, XL

In the wake of a scintillating fall season that
included appearances at New York City’s
Beacon Theatre and New Jersey’s
new Hamilton Stage,
Ballets with a Twist,
the hot next-generation ballet company,
announces
a new performance date for the intoxicating evening-length dance experience
Cocktail Hour.

(
Photo: Nico Malvaldi)

On January 13th at 7 pm, cocktail culturists will enjoy
the full suite of delicious dances at the company’s Manhattan home, XL Nightclub and Cabaret, one of the sleekest nightlife
hotspots in the city. Several of the dances will feature live musical
accompaniment by some of New York’s
most celebrated musicians, all of whom can be heard on the official Cocktail Hour soundtrack. Trombonist Peter
Zummo will add an extra tropical twist to “Mai Tai,” singer Barbara
Morillo will sweeten up “Shirley Temple,” and Deni Bonet will bring
“Mint Julep” back to its Southern roots with her finest fiddling.
Peter Valentine and Tabitha Fair will end the show on a high note, adding their
soulful vocals to the crowd-favorite “Holy Water.” Ballets with a
Twist fans will also delight in the long-awaited return of the majestic
“Margarita.

Conceived and choreographed by celebrated dance-maker Marilyn Klaus — whose eclectic
background ranges from vaudeville and show dancing to Isadora Duncan and
classical ballet — Cocktail Hour
is a sassy suite of dances, each inspired by a well-known beverage. The show
both reinvents ballet and pays respect to the rich creativity of cocktail
culture, launching the Martini, Gimlet, Manhattan,
and more off the menu and onto the stage

Cocktail Hour features original music by Stephen Gaboury, who has collaborated with
Klaus for over 20 years. Gaboury’s music has been featured in film and on
television. In 2004, he received a Grammy nomination for his work with pop/rock
legend Lauper, with whom he recently contributed as co-writer for selections in
her new musical Kinky Boots. He has also performed with many A-listers
including Patti Labelle, Suzanne Vega and Ute Lemper. Catherine Zehr  is the artistic force
behind the glamorous costume design. Her exquisite creations evoke the origins
and spirit of each libation with vivid colors and embellishments.

Critics and audience members agree: Cocktail Hour is an artistically seductive
must-see. The Huffington Post raves that Klaus is
“blasting the boundaries between high art and entertainment,” and
that her style is a distinctive mix of “Hollywood glitz and New York polish,”
while The New York Times praises
her as “witty and fantastic.” Recent performances also caught the
attention of The Wall Street Journal
and New York City’s
PIX11 Morning News.

VLADA is New and Improved

 Hello New York!

I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share with you the many excited things coming up at Vlada Lounge, but first let me thank you for being a loyal customer for the last 6 years and making Vlada the best vodka bar in NYC (New York Magazine, Best Of New York issue). I believe you will be excited to learn what our little Russian elves have been up to and the ways in which Vlada is expanding for the new 2012/2013 season.

Much like Lindsay Lohan (girl, did you see her on SNL?!) we have given Vlada a face lift: classy new furniture, a fantastic staff comprised of some of the sexiest, smartest, and talented men in New York, and added new flavors to our extensive, home-made, organic, infused vodka menu. All in all, I’d say we pulled it off better than she did. To continue with the Russian theme, we have made some delicious additions to our food menu. Be sure to try some of my favorites: Beef Stroganoff, Chicken Kiev, Siberian Pelmeni, Poached Salmon, Blini with Caviar, and several Traditional Russian Salads created by the award winning, original chef from the Russian Samovar. Check out photos of the new menu here.

As owner of the only Authentic Russian Gay Bar outside of Moscow, equality for the gay community has always been my highest priority. Minutes after the gay marriage law passed in New York I became an Ordained Minister so I could marry same sex couples at our beautiful and elegant upstairs event space. We’ve had many successful and beautiful ceremonies in 2011 and I anticipate many more to come! Please email vlada@ministervlada.com if you or someone you know is looking to tie the knot in a memorable way. We have also expanded into highend catering, so we are able to fulfill any and all requests for parties of any size. Please email vlada@vvscatering.com for all catering inquiries.

You can also take advantage of our all new upstairs for private events of all shapes and sizes! From fundraisers to birthday parties to Russian language classes, our upstairs is ideal for your party. The space comes with its own private floor, ipod connection and CD players, projector, piano, available microphones, artwork from community artists, and much more! Email billy@vladaloungeny.com or ernie@vladaloungeny.com to set up your event today. Centrally located at 331 West 51st street (Between 8th and 9th avenue), we’re a short walk from the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, N, Q, and R trains, and close enough to have a drink at 7:45 PM and still make the entr’acte at Wicked.

For a limited time we are offering a 20% discount on our select services to make your experience even more memorable. Call Billy, Ernie, or Vlada Von Shats at 212-974-8030 and let’s have a meaningful date (we like to cuddle).

When The Secret Bar is No Longer a Secret

Secret Lounge  is no longer a Secret!!

This past Week, Eater  NY exposed  10 “secret” hard-to-find bars and lounges.

Secret Lounge at 525 W 29th St
(between 10th Ave & 11th Ave)
was mentioned.

This gay bar attracts big crowds late at night on the weekends, but the rest of the week, it keeps a very, very low profile. The space is located at the end of a long hallway accessible via an unmarked door on a nondescript block of West Chelsea, in the shadow of The High Line. The space features plush red banquettes, vintage chandeliers, and a square bar in the center of the room.

With a name like Secret Lounge -How can it be a Secret?

Beckie Menzie & Tom Michael at the Metropolitan Room August 29

“One of the most compelling
duos in cabaret today.”
  – The Chicago Tribune

“a joyous intoxicating hour of music…
downright thrilling”

– Cabaret Scenes Magazine

 “Chicago’s premiere cabaret act”
– Broadwayworld.com

The Metropolitan Room
34 West 22nd Street, NYC
Sunday, August 29th @ 9:30 PM

The sixties are back! Beckie Menzie  & Tom Michael celebrate the 50th anniversary of the decade that forever revolutionized popular music.  From the idyllic early Motown sound and British invasion to the free love and angst of Woodstock, “That 60’s Show” will feature songs by many of the decades favorite performers including The Beatles, The Supremes, The Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley, Petula Clark,  Janis Joplin and many more, all done in Menzie & Michael’s unique award-winning style at The Metropolitan Room.

One of cabaret’s most in demand duos, Menzie & Michael offer a unique blend of whimsy, nostalgia and unquestionable talent that translates into pure entertainment. Their imaginative musical twists on jazz  favorites, standards, contemporary pop, Broadway show tunes and film gems have won them audience and critical acclaim across the country and around the globe.  Hailed by The Chicago Tribune as “One of the most compelling duos in cabaret today,” they have appeared on some of the country’s most prestigious stages, including New York’s Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

Their recording efforts have been praised by Billboard Magazine, Backstage, Show Business Weekly and Playbill and their latest CD, Better Two-gether has been hailed by critics as “magic,”  “sensational,” and “…the years best recording.”  In what they call a “musical marriage,” Menzie and Michael delight audiences with their rare chemistry, inventive arrangements and genuine love for music and for one another. Menzie’s rich voice and expert piano stylings sizzle on everything from sassy swing to smoky torch songs.

A three-time winner of Chicago’s After Dark “Outstanding Cabaret Artist” award, Menzie is a diva-in-demand whom Chicago’s WGN Radio has praised as “one of the city’s finest performers.”  With a voice that Billboard Magazine describes as “…a revelation,” Michael’s warm expressive style and charismatic tenor breathe new life into cabaret standards and reveal why Backstage Magazine has called him “one of the most striking singers to emerge in the last dew years.” Together, their playful, passionate performances produce what critics have called “sizzling,” “pure brilliance,” and  “cabaret at its best!”

THE OUT NYC – Gay Urban Resort Planned for the City by Parkview Developers

You may remember we reported here a couple weeks ago that
THE AXEL hotels, based in Spain, were planning to break
ground on a property here in NYC in 2011.

Well,  NOT GONNA HAPPEN.  I was in Barcelona last week and met with the Axel people, and even though they plan to come to NYC sometime in the future, it is not on the current radar screen.

It was just rumors and gossip.

Or was it…….

This week comes news that in fact  another “hetero-friendly” hotel will be opening here in the city.

The Parkview Developers, run by a gay New York couple, are calling the project “The Out NYC.”  (What an awful name!)

The development, to be completed by early next year, will consist of 123 guest rooms, a 10,000-square-foot dance club, a gym, spa, restaurant, and a 24/7 café. Much of the complex will be housed in the old Travel Inn, which was built in the 1960s, and is located at 508 W. 42nd St. (between 10th and 11th).

The $20 million “Urban Gay Resort” could bring nearly 80,000 square feet of new gayness to the city. If built, it will be New York’s first full-service gay hotel, and the first new nightclub serving the gay community in more than five years to have a cabaret license.

There are lots of obstacles ahead for their idea but they are getting lots of support.  John Blair and Beto Sutter are also involved with the project. The most significant hurdle at this point — for the nightclub and for the overall character of the project that ends up being built — is approval of both a liquor license and a cabaret license for the nightclub.

With only three Manhattan gay nightclubs — Splash, the Monster, and Escuelita — licensed for dancing, and a total capacity of less than 2,300 patrons combined, Blair, Sutter, and the Parkview team clearly see a ripe opportunity to fill the void in nightlife options, particularly for Hell’s Kitchen’s swelling gay population.

SNAXX Party to Benefit The Center December 11

DJs Rich King and Gustavo and
DSG Entertainment Group announce

SNAXX: the 7EVEN YEAR ITCH

Friday, DECEMBER 11thRebel, NYC

251 w 30th @ Eighth
From 10 pm to 4 am     $15

a seven year anniversary party for SNAXX . The 7EVEN YEAR ITCH featuring DJs Rich King and Gustavo on the main floor and a SNAXX ALL-STAR LOUNGE with past Snaxx guest djs Joey Falcone, Paul Ferrer, Javier Peral and Bill Pfeiffer. Also coming back for the reunion will be SNAXX legend Paul Short on the door.

This event is not only an anniversary for Rich and Gustavo’s long running Chelsea party for dudes, it is also a celebration of their new partnership with Derek Scott Graves (DSG) and a launch for their new monthly SNAXX dance event. Look for parties up and down the Eastern Seaboard, in DC, Baltimore, Philly, Pittsburg, Boston and beyond.

Having a seven year history of collaboration with the LGBT Center of New York and their monthly Dance208 parties, the 7EVEN YEAR ITCH is also a blowout benefiting The Center and their continued service to the NYC community.

The boys and Derek will bring the party back to NYC to benefit the Center at Rebel, the outer Chelsea club, home to a broad spectrum of parties gay, straight and in between, every third month.Derek Scott Graves, founder of DSG Entertainment Group has worked extensively with Clubland’s big guns and die-hard legends and organizations: Peter Rauhofer, Junior Vasquez, Saint-at-Large, Star69, Pill Awards, the OutMusic awards, even the Eagle! Now DSG is excited to partner with Rich and Gustavo and SNAXX to form a power triad bringing quality shenanigans to a disco near you.

SNAXX founder, Rich King, has been going at it in NYC for many years. Launching SNAXX at the East Village bar the Hole, he made a brief run at the now defunct Slide then landed in the basement of Chelsea’s Westside Tavern. Shortly there after he pulled in hot Brasilian DJ Gustavo Motta to play for the slightly bigger and hirsute denizens of SNAXX. Working under the tagline FUN, FRIENDLY, FURRY, FOXXY, these two continue to bring a speakeasy vibe alternate Fridays to their burly boite. Together they have a long-standing reputation for bringing new music and a great party to those in need. Besides their regular SNAXX, they have thrown six years of SUPERSNAXX, a gay pride blowout  at Cielo. The past two summers have seen them take the show to the shore with SUMMERSNAXX by the Sea gigs at the legendary Ice Palace in Cherry Grove and the Paramount in Provincetown.
