Is the word QUEER offensive to you?
How about FAGGOTY?
Or is it like the "N" word? There is much debate about words and how they are used and who uses them. Two of New Yorks gay entertainers and musical artists , Jonny "The Gay Pimp" McGovern and Adam Joseph are leaders in a new crop of revolutionary gay artists. With their outrageous records and gay music videos, they—along with a bevy of other talented twinkolicious divas— are ushering in a new genre of club hits to our nation's dance floors. Dubbed "faggot music," the colorful beats celebrate the 'F' word and encourage fans to reclaim their inner faggot. Many in the community—especially men under 30—are doing just that.
But there are also many in the community who oppose the use of faggot in popular music and think it irresponsible of these artists to encourage gay youth to embrace the historically derogative word. The opposition has been vocal online for some time, initially targeting Jonny "The Gay Pimp" McGovern and his Gays Gone Wild album. But the finger wagging has shifted now to Adam Joseph whose "Faggoty Attention" video has reined supreme on LOGO-TV's Click List music countdown show for four weeks. Don't feel bad for Jonny, though. He's sure to be the lead target again when his latest release, "Don't Fall in Love with a Homo," hit this summer.
Love them or hate them, no one can argue one thing. These sparkly young artists are making people rethink the power of the "F" word!
Gay pop superstar, TV personality, and nightlife legend, "Gay Pimp" Jonny McGovern blazed onto the New York scene in 2000 with his satirical mix of his character comedy and dirty gay hits and his fire continues to burn bright.
Jonny produced his debut album Dirty Gay Hits in collaboration with IDM producer, Secret Agent Gel. Together they crafted a collection of Gay Pimp themed songs such as Soccer Practice, Lookin’ Cute/Feelin’ Cute, and Hey Lil' Raver Boi. Jonny then created a dirty gay teen pop style nightclub act with a bevy of soccer/raver boi dancers, a gay rapper, and fierce drag queens workin' the runway. Jonny headlined all over Manhattan including Homocorps at the legendary CBGB's, Joe's Pub, Splash Bar NY, LUXX and opened for Peaches and Chicks on Speed at The Electro Clash Festival as well as at his own white hot parties such as Boys Gone Wild and The Rambles at The Park.
The Gay Pimp became an Internet and international phenomenon. broke into TV with several high profile gigs. Comedy Central’s Out On The Edge, hosted by Alan Cumming brought Jonny’s Gay Pimp revue to a national TV audience. For an entire season, Ricki Lake highlighted his comedy and solidified his status as a ghetto superstar. In 2006, Jonny conquered another format with his weekly podcast Gay Pimpin’ with Jonny McGovern, the most popular gay/weekly/comedy show on iTunes.
He continues his gay world domination with his latest CD, KEEP IT FAGGITY: THE GAY PIMP REMIX PROJECT, a ten track album featuring brand new remixes of Jonny "The Gay Pimp" McGovern's most popular gay hits. He is also a cast menber of the new sketch comedy show The Big Gay Sketch Show produced by Rosie O’Donnell for the LOGO television network.
ADAM JOSEPH on the other hand has a very different voice and style. Don't let the baby face fool you. This blue eyed soul singer has exploded onto the scene with a debut that has music insiders comparing him to the likes of Anita Baker, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu. The result is a smart blend of soul and pop, catchy hooks and deep heartfelt lyrics. With a big gay twist!
A rare find in the world of music today. Not only does he write, produce, engineer, arrange, and play on all of his recordings, but he also managed to release and distribute his first album independently through his self-owned record label, JAH Records (established in 2003).His single “You're Mine" sat at # 1 on Logo's Click List for 4 weeks, and his eight track maxi-single "Faggoty Attention" garnering just that, East Village celebutante and Jah Records recording artist Adam Joseph is indeed "carrying on a long history of Faggot Music" just as he out and proudly proclaims in his bio.
A frequent guest on the unapologetically dirty original podcast program Gay Pimpin’ with Jonny McGovern, where he talk about everything from locker room masturbation to bumps in the DJ booth, twinkalicious Adam Joseph has worked on Jonny McGovern’s two albums, This Is NYC Bitch! The East Village Mix Tape and Gays Gone Wild.
He moved to New York City where he created “Elegant Children Productions”, his own production company. Currently, Adam provides beats and songs for an entire downtown culture of rising Hip-Hop, Rock, and Dance Music personalities, all the while continuing to pursue his own career as a recording artist and songwriter. Adam reaches across many genres of music, continuously proving himself as not just a singer, but also a well-rounded musician, songwriter and producer.
