Welcome To New York - An Introduction to the City

New York City is like no other city on Earth!  The most populous city in the United States, with its metropolitan area ranking among the largest urban areas in the world. It has been the largest city in the United States since 1790. For more than a century, it has been one of the world's major centers of commerce and finance. New York City is rated as an alpha world city for its global influences in media, politics, education, entertainment, arts and fashion. The city is also a major center for foreign affairs, hosting the headquarters of the United Nations.

Over 8 million people in the city and its boroughs - the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Nearly 45 million international and domestic tourists  currently visit New York City each year, spending $25 billion in the city!
And getting around this city couldn't be easier. 6,200  buses,  26 subway routes and about 12,000 taxi cabs. There are nearly 19,000 restaurants and 40 theatres to choose from.

The diversity, the culture, the style... New York is definitely a city in a class all its own. Fashion, theatre, advertising and the arts have perpetuated New York into one of the most gay friendliest cities in the world. Visitors to New York City will find world class hotels and hip boutique hotels. New York  dining choices include superb gourmet restaurants with world-renowned chefs, ethnic restaurants, original New York style Delis, New York pizzerias and the most amazing bakeries. See the sights. Visit amazing museums. Shop for designer items on New York's famous 5th Avenue. Take in a Broadway show. And, then party the night away at one of New York's hot clubs.

The gay movement started in New York City, in the village. Militant gay activism can be dated to the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, when the Stonewall Inn , a gay bar in  Greenwich Village, was raided by the police. Nearly 400 people joined a riot that lasted 45 minutes and resumed on succeeding nights. It is often said, an urban legend if you will, that gays were mourning the death of Judy Garland that week and were sick and tired of being harassed by the police and decided to fight back! Whatever the reason, gay rights organizations proliferated in the United States in the succeeding years.

New York City is truly the city that never sleeps ! There is always something to see or do, no matter what time of the day or night! This site will be your one-stop information source!
